HIGH CARD – Season 2 Episode 2 Recap & Review

TRUTH OF THE HERO

HIGH CARD Season 2 Episode 2 begins with Sonic Speed rescuing a girl from an accident and warning the driver against driving in restricted spaces. The scene cuts to Chris and Michele making plans to go out together.

Following that, Chris meets Finn at the airport for their new job to grab the Queen of Hearts card. He finds Finn upset about the Black Knight and reassures him. The scene switches to Sugar researching the Klondike family. She watches over the captain and intends to avenge him. Just then, she stumbles upon the file of Iris.

The scene changes to Finn and Chris walking the streets in search of Sonic Move. Just then, they see a man harassing a woman and begin to fight over who will save her. Just then, Sonic Move arrives and saves her. A huge crowd gathers around them. Finn and Chris try to talk to him, but he is unable to hear them, treats them like fans, and speeds off.

The scene switches to Theodore and Owen standing in a strange space with the collected cards. Finn and Chris separately look for Sonic Speed in the streets of the city. Chris suddenly has a bad cough, and Sonic Speed arrives to help him. Chris takes the opportunity to ask for the card, but Sonic Speed misinterprets him as a fan.

Chris then reveals his card, and Sonic Speed assumes he wants to become a superhero as well. Sonic Speed challenges him to catch him if he wants to become his comrade. Finn comes across a strange man and asks him for directions. They then slip into a discussion about the cards, and the man challenges Finn’s knowledge of the cards by proposing his own beliefs about the cards.

Chris attempts to catch Sonic Speed, but they suddenly get an alert of a mishap at the cathedral. The two rush there and team up to save as many people as possible. In the end, Chris goes to rescue a cat, but the floor beneath him collapses. Chris lobs the cat over to Sonic Speed but isn’t able to save himself and gets gravely injured by the rubble.

Finn and the others find him struggling and unable to heal his wounds. Finn calls out to Sonic Speed to take him to the hospital. Following that, Vijay traps Sonic Speed and takes him away to retrieve the Queen of Hearts. This angers Finn as Sonic Speed was only using it to help people in need.

The scene switches to TILT expressing his concerns about Bang to Iris. It is revealed that they have possession of the Black Knight. Finn questions if what Chris is going through is the price of X-hand at the end of HIGH CARD Season 2 Episode 2.

The Episode Review

Over the past few episodes, we’ve been placed in a position to question the morals and actions of High Card. In HIGH CARD Season 2 Episode 2, we see it challenged once again, with High Card attempting to strip Sonic Speed of his power to help people in need. Moreover, Sonic Speed also assisted Chris, a close friend of Finn, before Leo and the others could take him away. This escalation in Finn’s mind forces him to confront his own beliefs while working for High Card.

We also witnessed the Black Knight making an appearance in the previous chapter. This chapter follows up on it but doesn’t fully reveal what transpired. It seems like the Black Knight is either with TILT and Iris, or they had a battle, and the Black Knight was taken down. Regardless, the series is handling the buildup very well, keeping it extremely intriguing.
