Hide – K-drama Episode 7 Recap & Review

The Escape Plan

Episode 7 of Hide begins with Moon-young crashing her car in Yeon-joo’s living room but not hitting anyone. She confronts Sung-jae who simply blames her for betraying him. He slaps her but she slaps him back. She throws the ring and drives off but he takes the ring and throws it out in her direction. We get flashbacks of debtors going after teen Moon-young but Sung-jae helps her escape. At present, she tells Shin-hwa who is furious.

She then meets with Jin-woo who knew about the affair but thought it over when Yeon-joo “kidnapped” Sung-jae. Moon-young asks about Jin-woo’s daughter and he reveals she has been adopted by a good family which he is fine with. She insists on getting details but he feels that some fathers are better off gone. On to the problem at hand, he offers to help take down Sung-jae and they expose his fake death.

Sung-jae and Yeon-joo need to stall for some loan before they can leave the country. They leak CCTV footage of Jin-woo visiting Moon-young’s home. They spin it as Moon-young being a cheating wife and news about Sung-jae faking his death gets buried.

Frustrated, Moon-young gives the video of Sung-jae beating Hwang Tae-soo to Baek but he says it is circumstantial evidence as it doesn’t record the death.

Sung-jae also fires Moon-young from the Chawoong law firm. He blames her as had she not looked into his death, they would have been happier separately. He then goes to the police, confident that he will be cleared. He claims to have been blackmailed by Ma Gang to bring Tae-soo. Myunghee is his alibi that night. He has an answer for every question and he walks off scott-free.

Meanwhile, Manager Go meets with Moon-young to relate that Cha will be disciplined for malpractices reported by Moon-young herself. Go is okay with liaisoning between them but is angry as to why Moon-young is betraying the Chas when they took her in as a kid.

At school, everyone avoids Bom cause of the rumours. Curious, she looks online. Later, the school calls Moon-young as Bom has gone missing. Turns out Sung-jae and Bom are in a restaurant nearby eating snacks. He suggests they can move far away where no one gossips about them when Moon-young arrives. She is upset and once again, he blames her for making school uncomfortable for Bom.

Once home, Bom storms off. Chairman Choi catches Moon-young and asks why his son, Woo-shik or the legal department are not contacting him. She hides when Yeon-joo shows up and takes Choi away.

It is finally revealed – Sung-jae and Yeon-joo plan to steal from Geumshin by controlling Chairman Choi himself. They will head to Zurich and withdraw from there. Moon-young and Co. get closer as well as they figure that the two plan to steal the 80 billion won which is meant for the Haean redevelopment. The next day, Bom refuses to go to school and insists on going with Sung-jae. Moon-young realises he is leaving the country and tells Detective Baek.

Yeon-joo suddenly changes their plans and decides that they should go to Zurich separately. She assures him there is nothing to worry about as both their signs are needed to withdraw the money.

It is D-Day. Geumshin gets the 80 billion and once the ceremony is over, Yeon-joo secretly transfers the money to a paper account. Meanwhile, Sung-jae and Yoon arrive at the airport. At the same time, Moon-young and Jin-woo tell, Choi’s son, Woo-shik about Yeon-joo embezzling from them and he reports her.

Elsewhere, Baek puts a travel ban on Hwang Tae-soo, the name Sung-jae would be travelling under. On realising that he is being tracked, Sung-jae steals the briefcase Yoon had his clutches on and hides. The cops swarm the airport and even Jin-woo rushes there. At the end of Hide Episode 7, cops charge Yeon-joo with financial fraud and Moon-young gloats as she arrives to watch her get arrested.

The Episode Review

Absolutely hate the trope where the super smart, cunning and strong female lead suddenly turns all wimpy in the end when she is cornered and betrayed. But thankfully, that doesn’t seem to be the case for Moon-young in Hide Episode 7. We finally get the Wolverine Prosecutor who slaps her cheating husband back and doesn’t back down from the fight.

And damn, Sung-jae really turned out to be evil-evil, huh? We could have excused murder, but we have to draw the line at the cheating and that horrible gaslighting. He is getting on our nerves now. We knew he was a corrupt lawyer but the way he deftly gets out of every situation is frustrating.
