Haunted Mansion
The last time we had a movie based on Disney’s spooky theme park attraction was in 2003 but the less said about that scarily bad Eddie Murphy movie, the better.
Hopes are high for this upcoming movie, however, so you shouldn’t be too afraid to visit your local cinema when this second Haunted Mansion title lands on on the big screen this summer.
What is Haunted Mansion about?
Plot details are a little thin on the ground at the moment but we do know the movie is centred around a single mother and her son who enlist a spiritual hit squad – a tour guide, a psychic, a priest, and a historian – to rid their home of supernatural squatters.
The movie will be full of easter eggs that fans of Disney’s attraction will recognize, such as a stretching room, the Hatbox Ghost, a ghostly bride, and the spirit of Madame Leota, the clairvoyant who now resides inside a crystal ball.
When is Haunted Mansion being released?
The movie will be released in cinemas on 28 July in the US and 11 August in the UK.
We don’t have a confirmed date for when the movie will be coming to Disney+ but it would make sense for Disney to release it on their streaming service around Halloween time, for obvious reasons!
Who stars in Haunted Mansion?
Rosario Dawson stars as Gabbie, the mother of Travis (Chase W. Dillon), who realizes she needs professional ghost-busting assistance after discovering her home is infested by restless spirits.
Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson clearly weren’t available to help so instead, Gabbie calls on the help of Owen Wilson’s priest, LaKeith Stanfield’s tour guide, Tiffany Haddish’s wise medium, and Danny DeVito’s eccentric history professor.
Also in the cast is Jared Leto as the Hatbox Ghost and Jamie Lee Curtis as Madame Leota.
Who is the director of Haunted Mansion?
The director of the movie is Justin Simien, who is best known for the TV series Dear White People and the horror movie Bad Hair. His name is also attached to Lando, an upcoming Star Wars series which focuses on the smooth-talking smuggler Lando Calrissian.
