Gyeongseong Creature – K-drama Season 2 Episode 5 Recap & Review

Episode 5

Episode 5 of Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 begins 2 years after Onseong Hospital’s downfall. Lady Maeda calls Tae-sang to Madam Na’s cafe. We see that Maeda is still human and scarred. She wants an apology from him and points out that she went above and beyond to help him as a friend. He declares that friends don’t count favours and tells her to leave the country. As he tries to head out, her men surround him.

At the pawnshop, more men arrive and brutally beat up Mrs. Nawol, Mr. Gu and Beom-o. Nawol puts up a fight but they throw her down the stairs. As for the men, they hang Gu and Beom-o.

At the cafe, Tae-sang is similarly outmatched. He is almost at death’s door when Maeda comments that for her, loyalty is friendship. She then injects him with the Najin and drops him at the pawnshop. He wakes up to see an injured Nawol and the dead men. As he cries and tries to take down Gu and Beom-o, the Najin is activated. Nawol tries to help him but he almost attacks her. They have a bittersweet farewell and as Nawol escapes, Tae-sang becomes the Najin.

At present, Maeda meets Chae-ok and is fascinated. She claims that Chae-ok should be glad that because they created Seishin, she is alive. He adds that Tae-sang is also alive because of her and Chae-ok is horrified. She asks why she is being so cruel and Maeda declares that if she cannot be friends with Tae-sang, she will be their hell.

Kuroko wonders why Chae-ok is being added to the experiment and Maeda states that it isn’t experimentation, it is revenge.

Kuroko04 takes Chae-ok to a glass cell and she sees Seong-jo and Ho-jae in front of the Najin tank. She finally realises that Ho-jae is indeed Tae-sang and promises to break him out. However, he cannot hear her and Seong-jo tells him to choose, to die with Chae-ok or save her. Tae-sang crawls towards the tank while Chae-ok begs him to stop.

While Tae-sang is infected again, Chae-ok attacks Kuroko04. The guards blast her with nitrogen gas but she builds up tolerance as she grabs a mask and makes her way out of the cell. She tries to get to Tae-sang but she is delayed as more and more Najin guards show.

Mrs. Ahn heads to the Bugang office and is shocked to see Detective Noh. She defends Ho-jae and tells Noh that she has it all wrong when the cop claims he is a suspect. Mrs. Ahn demands to speak to her captain and when she gets Yuh on the phone, she talks to him informally.

Meanwhile, Tae-sang gets his memories back and attacks Seong-jo. He tries to make his way to Chae-ok and realises that he has lost all his rationality as the only thing he wants is her. A fight ensues on both ends of the corridors as Tae-sang and Chae-ok try to make their way to each other. Tae-sang is so engrossed that he doesn’t realise that all the guards are dead and he stabs Chae-ok when she reaches for him.

Maeda watches from the CCTV and demands Tae-sang be brought to her while giving the guards free rein to kill Chae-ok. However, Seong-jo destroys all the CCTVs and even kills one last Najin guard with his tentacles as he makes his way to the couple.

Kuroko and the rest show up and find the couple gone and Seong-jo injured. Seong-jo claims that they have escaped via Tunnel 5. Kuroko notices the dead guard with the tentacle injury but heads to the tunnel anyway.

Turns out, Seong-jo is in cahoots with Tae-sang as he tells him about the Najin army headed their way. Tae-sang acts as bait, leading the guards to Tunnel 5 while Seong-jo helps Chae-ok escape. Tae-sang and Seong-jo regroup at Tunnel 5’s secret exit and we see that they are friends. Tae-sang ruffles his hair and Seong-jo acts annoyed as he gives him a disguise. Kuroko isn’t able to find anyone in Tunnel 5 and calls Seong-jo to him.

At the end of Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 Episode 5, Tae-sang makes his way out and finds Chae-ok waiting for him. They hug and end up kissing each other.

The Episode Review

Well, Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 Episode 5 was pretty action-packed. Season 2 keeps the angst to the minimum as it quickly flips through the pawnshop crew’s death and Chae-ok watching Tae-sang getting infected. Instead, we get an adrenaline-filled chapter with some cool choreographed fight sequences which finally includes Tae-sang being as equally powerful as his adversaries.

But do not look too deep into the plot since it is full of plot holes and illogical moves that don’t make sense. How does Kuroko04 know about Seong-jo’s plan to take Chae-ok to Ho-jae but Captain Kuroko and Maeda don’t? Sure, we can chalk it off as a rebellious Seong-jo going against the company to annoy them with the risk of being killed by an amnesiac Tae-sang.

But how do Jeonseung don’t realise that they have a traitor in their midst? And why does Tae-sang attack Seong-jo after he get his memories back? Kuroko doesn’t have much going on either as it seems Maeda is the big bad baddie again. But guess we will see him connect the dots with the tentacle injury and Seong-jo in the next episode and punish him for letting Tae-sang escape.
