DIRECTOR – Jung Dong-Yoon

Jung Dong-yoon is a South Korean director whose previous work includes the drama Hot Stove League (2019). Regarding Gyeongseong Creature, Jung said he wanted to focus on the in-between nature of situations that people find themselves in — in between good and bad, in between us and them. He also wanted to make this a period drama that portrayed the life of Korea in 1945 but through a genre that a global audience would enjoy.


WRITER – Kang Eun-kyung

Kang Eun-kyung is a long-running writer of K-dramas, who has been in the game since around 1999. One of her well-known dramas is King of Baking, Kim Takgu which received high ratings in 2010. Other popular dramas in her repertoire include Where Stars Land (2018) and the Dr. Romantic series (2016-2023). She has also worked as a creator on Forecasting Love and Weather (2022), Now, We Are Breaking Up (2021), and The World of the Married (2020).


MAIN CAST

Park Seo-joon as Jang Tae-sang

Park Seo-joon doesn’t quite need an introduction in the Korean entertainment industry. Park initially gained recognition through supporting roles in various dramas, but it was his lead roles in hits like Kill Me, Heal Me (2015), She Was Pretty (2015), and What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim (2018) that propelled him to stardom.

In Gyeongseong Creature, he plays a merchant named Jang Tae-sang who built his wealth from from the ground up and runs a successful pawnshop. His life is turned upside down when Commissioner Ishikawa threatens his wealth and status to force him to look for a missing woman — Myeong-ja.

In order to do so, he joins hands with two sleuths named Chae-ok and Joong-won. Chae-ok and her father are masters of investigation and have been searching for Chae-ok’s mother for ten years. The search for both women leads them to a hospital which has some mysterious activities going on in its basement.


Han So-hee as Yoon Chae-ok

Han So-hee began her career playing supporting roles in shows like Money Flower (2017), 100 Days My Prince (2018), and Abyss (2019). But since then she has moved on to play the lead role in popular shows like Nevertheless (2021) and My Name (2021).

She takes on another smashing lead role in Gyeongseong Creature as Chae-ok, a young woman working as a sleuth with her father. She’s been looking for her missing mother for ten years and strikes a deal with Tae-sang — she’ll help look for Ishikawa’s woman if he helps look for her mother. Together, their search leads them to a hospital which seems to have more than medical treatment going on inside.


Wi Ha-joon as Kwon Jun-taek

Wi Ha-joon is an actor who made his name through his role in Squid Game (2021). Since then he has starred in leading roles likeBad and Crazy (2021), Little Women (2022) and The Worst of Evil (2023).

He plays Kwon Jun-taek, Tae-sang’s long-time friend and the son of a wealthy merchant in Gyeongseong Creature. Born of wealth but wanting to use his privilege for good, Jun-taek secretly works with the Korean independence movement, fighting the Japanese occupation as and when he can.


Soo Hyun as Yukiko Maeda

Soo Hyun, otherwise known as Claudia Kim, is a well-known actress who has appeared in both Korean and English media. Popular works from her filmography include Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), The Dark Tower (2017), Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018), and Korean dramas like Monster (2016) and Chimera (2021).

Soo Hyun plays one of the more mysterious characters in Gyeongseong Creature — Lady Maeda, who is the wife of Commissioner Ishikawa and is also linked to the terrible secrets at Ongseong Hospital.


Jo Han-chul as Yoon Joong-won

Jo Han-chul is a versatile actor who made his debut in 1998. Since then, he’s played a number of different parts in supporting and leading roles. 100 Days My Prince (2018), Vincenzo (2021), Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha (2021), Jirisan (2021), and Reborn Rich (2022) are some of his most popular works.


Kim Hae-sook as Na Wol-daek

Kim Hae-sook is a veteran South Korean actress who has led an illustrious career in the Korean entertainment industry since 1978. She has also won several awards for her work. While her filmography includes over 80 different credits, some of her most renowned works in recent times are Hospital Playlist (2020-2021) Start-Up (2020), Tomorrow (2022) and Strong Woman Gang Nam-soon (2023).

In Gyeongseong Creature she plays Mrs. Nawol, who has been with Jang Tae-sang ever since he lost his mother and is a crucial part of his successful pawnshop. When Tae-sang leaves to investigate the hospital, she’s the one who holds down the fort.


Choi Young-joon as Lieutenant Kato

Choi Young-joon is another versatile actor who will be familiar to fans of Korean dramas. Flower of Evil (2020), Hospital Playlist (2020–21), Vincenzo (2021), and Our Blues (2022) are some of his prominent works in the last few years.

He plays the formidable Lieutenant Kato in Gyeongseong Creature, one of the senior military officers stationed at Ongseong Hospital. He’s a key player involved in the dark experiments secretly going on inside the hospital.
