Griselda – Season 1 Episode 3 “Mutiny” Recap & Review

Mutiny

Episode 3 of Griselda starts with a three-month time jump when one of Griselda’s men, Danny, is attacked by a rival group. Griselda, her family and the girls live in a mansion now, and life is going great. The only problem is that Ozzy is still traumatised. He has not forgotten what he saw at the motel and is struggling. Griselda tries to cheer him up with new toys, pets and a change of surroundings.

Danny shows up at the mansion, all beaten up, and asks Griselda to handle the issue. The rival boss in question is Papo, and he is angry with Griselda since he is Amilcar’s main supplier. If Griselda also supplies Amilcar, he will soon be out of business. In protest, he has been intentionally sabotaging Griselda’s business. Dario says that even Amilcar’s men are taking shots at them. Griselda orders Dario to protect Danny until things come down.

Arturo also informs Griselda that Rafa from the Ochoa family has asked to meet with her and German. They deduce that Rafa wants to buy them out of the Miami market. Arturo convinces Griselda that this is a good thing since it will allow her to enjoy the fruits of her labour without dealing with the bad stuff that comes along with the drug business. Griselda shares this news with the boys, who seem happy about it. They even start talking about taking family trips and relaxing as a family.

Elsewhere, the police come across a new case when a witness against Amilcar is killed. One of the witnesses to the shooting slips up and mentions Amilcar’s street nickname. Of course, June notices this and explains it to Bill, but he dismisses her. Instead, he orders her to request the witness to drop by the station and check photos to identify the killer. Bill also ignores June’s advice to swipe the car for more prints on the top left side of the driver’s door. Based on the witness’s description of the attack, June believes the killer is left-handed. This catalyses her decision to quit the homicide unit, and she gives her boss the notice and asks for a transfer to a desk job.

Back to Griselda, we learn that she is secretly sleeping with Dario. She is also making a name for herself back home and in Miami. People have started to refer to her as the Godmother, which she likes. A few days later, Griselda, German and Dario fly to Norman’s Cay in the Bahamas to meet with Rafa Salazar. As expected, Rafa puts up a show to subtly intimidate them with how much cocaine he has before making an offer. At this point, Griselda relies more on Dario, who keeps her informed on Rafa’s close circle.

As for the offer, Rafa wants to buy them out and pay them 15 million. He says he wants Miami to himself and will work with his own team from top to bottom. He wants to control the market and doesn’t want any interference from the dealers in Miami. Griselda is offended by the deal, and even though German wants to step back, she turns Rafa down. In retaliation, Rafa promises he will take Miami at all costs and says there will be no more consideration for Griselda and German.

On their flight back, German confronts Griselda, but she vows she has a plan. She promises to give him 25% and assures him they will make over 15 million. German agrees to give her a chance and hears her out. Well, the plan is to sell cocaine to the rich people in Miami exclusively. The girls are on board, and Griselda does her best to convince Arturo, who worries that the other dealers will take Rafa’s deal.

The next day, Griselda tries to unite the dealers and convince them they need to take control by rejecting Rafa’s deal. However, Papo sways the dealers saying they can’t trust Griselda and a woman shouldn’t lead them. Griselda says they don’t need a leader since they are all equal, but she offers to be their spokesperson. The dealers also get antsy since Amilcar is absent from the meeting and sends his right-hand man, Rivi. The dealers decide they can’t move forward without knowing Amilcar’s decision.

Griselda then approaches Rivi and asks for a meeting with Amilcar. Rivi agrees to drive her to him. Amilcar says that he is considering Rafa’s deal because he is currently undergoing some trouble with the police. He explains there is a witness, and Griselda offers to kill the witness for him. She is sure no one will suspect her of killing the witness. After a steamy lovemaking session with Dario, she orders him to take Chucho with him and kill the witness.

Dario is angered that she asked him to do this. He was hoping he could stop killing for a living. However, Griselda says she can’t let them take everything and refuses to reconsider. Dario and Chucho have a change of heart when they break into the witness’s house and discover he has a toddler and a wife at home. Dario calls Griselda to give her another chance to reconsider, but she orders him to kill them except the baby. A few minutes later, she gets a call from Dario that the witness has been dealt with.

The following morning, the police discover the gruesome scene, and June is called to help take care of the baby as they wait for child service. With the case against him over, Amilcar promises to work with Griseld behind the scenes. He assures her that he will sway the rest of the dealers to reject Rafa’s deal. He gets most of the other dealers to see things his way, and they agree to hold a mutiny party to celebrate. However, on the day of the mutiny, Amilcar is arrested after a heavy police shootout.

This is all thanks to June’s effort to make sure the fingerprints were swept because of her hunch. Another detective, Diaz, invites her to the arrest as a parting gift. Later, Diaz convinces June to join his upcoming task force, CENTAC, which is going to be dealing with drug-related crimes.

Griselda is shocked when German betrays her. German joins forces with Papo and convinces the others to take Rafa’s deal. She cries in Dario’s arms, saying she killed the witness for nothing. Dario embraces her, and they end up sleeping together. Griselda wakes up rejuvenated the following morning, ready to plan her revenge.

The Episode Review

At the start of this episode, Griselda is just a woman hustling, trying to feed her boys and the people who depend on her. However, by the end of the episode, she is slowly becoming blinded by power and money and wants to build a savage reputation for herself. She had a chance to walk away from all these, but instead, she chose to spill innocent blood.

The irony of her comforting Ozzy from his nightmare and saying he is safe with her while waiting for Dario to call, saying he has killed the witness and his wife is not lost on us. The drug world is on the brink of a bloody war. German and Papo better watch their backs. The Godmother is coming, and they are about to learn why hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!
