Irish duo Greywind have embarked on an EP that is untypical and free from the norm. With Antidote, they fly the flag for emo using discerning lyricism to tell their story, a chronicle that deals with debilitating mental health issues and horrible heartbreak.
Emo needs to be rejuvenated, and Greywind has reworked the genre in such a commanding and free-flowing manner. Many acts have tried to bundle together songs which take on the emo template, but they’ve ultimately failed in their pursuit. Greywind is different, as they have painstakingly worked on making waves in the industry without altering their personas. Arenas beckon for this band too, as they have the sound to inspire and generate across the world.
‘Swing And Sway’ begins the EP. Those angelic vocals rise to the occasion, and the burgeoning guitars are loud and commanding. The story hits a touchy topic, and clarity seems to be shrouded in.
‘Antidote’ opens with powerful percussion, and the chorus shows experimentation. The lyrics swing towards the meaning of death, and there’s no antidote for the pain. It’s another triumphant track.
‘Deathwish’ is a sad song, but one that shows progressive poetry. The band is in their element here, and the chorus explores death in such a gloomy way. The guitar presence is electric, while the creativity soars.
Greywind has created an EP that portrays pain and misfortune. Death is on the mind, and it can’t be shut out.
