Green Day – The American Dream Is Killing Me | Single Review

Punk stalwarts Green Day come back into the flashing light with their song based on a zombie apocalypse. The trio fly the flag for the disenchanted and the people lost in their own woes. The American Dream Is Killing Me sparks enough guile and fury to count. It is fused by those reliable power chords, and lead singer/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong sings with vigour and intent, keeping things interesting while bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool optimise their sound.

It is a new era for Green Day, and this song does offer a compelling insight into the new stage. There’s even an impressive solo from Armstrong with arrangements that are sturdy and exciting. The song doesn’t stand up to the mega-hit American Idiot, but who cares, as Green Day doesn’t need to prove themselves anymore.

The band also announced their new album Saviours, which will be released on the 19th of January 2024. Consisting of 15 songs, the record should outclass the previous album Father Of All, which didn’t go down well with critics and fans in 2020.
