Good Partner – K-drama Episode 14 Recap & Review

Episode 14

Episode 14 of Good Partner picks up from the last episode with Eun-kyung breaking the news to Yu-ri that she’s leaving the firm. Eun-kyung expresses her gratitude towards Woo-jin and the other employees for being by her side for 15 years. She’s given a grand farewell from the divorce department.

While on her way out, Yu-ri expresses her wish to follow her, but Eun-kyung wants her to learn at the firm and meet her again as partners. Even though it’s the end of Eun-kyung’s 15-year career at the law firm, she feels oddly liberated. She opens her own practice close to Jae-hui’s school, while Woo-jin is officially inaugurated as the managing partner of the firm.

With the new changes at Daejeong, Woo-jin offers Yu-ri the option to join the PIL department, or if she wants, the corporate law department that she has always wanted to join, while Eun-ho expresses his interest in remaining in the divorce department. Later, while Eun-ho and Yu-ri have lunch together, we learn that Yu-ri has become a sort of “law-fluencer,” with people recognizing her for fighting for the victim in her last case with Eun-kyung.

Elsewhere, despite having a new office, Eun-kyung doesn’t seem to get any clients. However, this speed bump is anything but concerning to her as she finds a balance between her work and life. Yu-ri comes to see her and asks about which department she should join, but Eun-kyung tells her that she already knows the answer.

Later, a former client visits Eun-kyung, but she directs her to Yu-ri. Meanwhile, a woman in need of urgent help visits Yu-ri, and she directs her to Eun-kyung. Despite their differences, Eun-kyung and Yu-ri help each other out.

The woman explains how her husband, who she’s been living with for 26 years, is a gambler who not only gambled away her hard-earned money but also their property, and now is trying to sell their land. When she tried to stop him, he threw her out of the house. The issue arises because the couple never registered their marriage!

It’s revealed that this was the husband’s plan all along, which is why he never got their marriage registered. Eun-kyung proposes a mutually beneficial settlement to the husband when he visits her.

Meanwhile, Yu-ri has gotten herself involved with her indecisive client yet again—the one who couldn’t bring herself to get a divorce and blamed her for her husband’s suicide attempt. Yu-ri learns that this time, her client has been diagnosed with stage 3 uterine cancer and is hesitating to get a divorce because she’s already broken and exhausted from her life. Yu-ri promises to help her.

Eun-kyung had rightly guessed her client’s husband. Since he’s a gambler, he’s most worried about making a loss, especially if he gains more money by selling the land and has to give a share of it to his wife for the settlement. He finally sends in the settlement money, and the case is closed. Eun-kyung treats her client to dinner and also learns that Yu-ri referred her to Eun-kyung.

Meanwhile, Yu-ri successfully convinces her client’s husband to get a divorce. The client also thanks her for being the most warm-hearted lawyer she’s ever met. She also tells Yu-ri that Eun-kyung sent her to Yu-ri. Through this case, Yu-ri realizes that she excels at divorce cases, empathizing with her clients, helping them save time, and helping them move forward in their lives. Thus, she decides to stay with the divorce team. Yu-ri, Eun-ho, and Woo-jin then visit Eun-kyung at her office to congratulate her on her new beginning.

The episode ends with Eun-kyung and Yu-ri spending a great time together one night, only to agree to take their case to court the next day, highlighting that they are no longer a senior-junior team but professional lawyers.

The Episode Review

With this episode, we finally see Eun-kyung blooming. Even though she isn’t a top lawyer earning a massive income, she seems to have found a balance between her work and life. This is highlighted in the name she gives her law firm: “Spring Again,” with the explanation, “Once winter ends, spring will come.”

Rather than just focusing on disposing of or winning cases, her work approach has shifted to helping people, with court as the last resort and agreements as a priority. By the end of the episode, we also learn another comic reason behind the name: Eun-kyung wants to keep coming back to cases every year!

This episode of Good Partner reminded us of the early fun episodes where the sunbae-hoobae team supported and learned from each other. By the end of the episode, we see their character growth.

Eun-kyung has become more like Yu-ri in dealing with her clients—more empathetic and warm—while Yu-ri has come a long way from being a rookie lawyer under Eun-kyung’s guidance. In the finale episodes, all that’s left to see is for the two of them to fight each other in court like proper equals!
