Episode 13
Episode 13 of Good Partner begins with a flashback where Eun-kyung asks Yu-ri to wait outside a client’s house and call the police if she doesn’t return within 10 minutes, suspecting domestic violence.
Inside, Eun-kyung finds the wife lying on the floor, seemingly dead, but she regains consciousness briefly and pleads for help. The husband is disappointed that his wife isn’t dead and refuses to call for assistance. Shortly after, the woman dies.
Eun-kyung, horrified, refuses to help the client further, stating they will withdraw from his case. Realizing that Eun-kyung is now a witness, the man attacks her, attempting to kill her, but she manages to escape, barefoot and shaking, much like his wife had earlier.
In the meantime, Yu-ri calls the police, leading to the man’s arrest. Later, she testifies to the police that she was the sole witness, aiming to protect Eun-kyung, who is a public figure. Woo-jin arrives to pick her up afterward.
Once home, Eun-kyung is haunted by the man’s threats to kill Jae-hui, causing her to feel paranoid about her daughter’s safety.
The next day, news breaks of the man’s murder charge, and the firm faces public backlash for defending a domestic abuser and murderer. Yu-ri’s identity is also revealed in the process.
At the court hearing, the man is charged with manslaughter rather than murder, as the prosecution lacks evidence of intent. Eun-kyung is visibly shaken by his presence. Both Eun-kyung and Yu-ri are deeply upset.
Later that night, when Jae-hui is at karaoke with her friends and unreachable, Eun-kyung grows paranoid but eventually finds her safe and brings her home. Jae-hui reassures her, urging Eun-kyung to trust her judgment as she has always made the right decisions. This comforts Eun-kyung, helping her resolve to testify as a witness in the case.
Meanwhile, Woo-jin is officially appointed as CEO of Daejong and, against his father’s wishes, decides to cancel the MOU with the medical foundation. Though this incurs a financial loss, Woo-jin believes it’s more important to correct past wrongs, earning Eun-kyung’s praise for his decision-making.
At the next hearing, Eun-kyung testifies as a witness, putting her career at risk by speaking against her client. Despite public backlash, she presents evidence that the man intended to kill his wife, revealing she had recorded their conversation with a spy pen before entering the house.
Thanks to her testimony, the man is convicted of murder and sentenced to 15 years in prison. Simultaneously, Yu-ri protests the biased divorce laws that make it difficult for victims to escape abusive marriages, with the law firm’s divorce team joining her in support.
Through Eun-kyung’s testimony, Yu-ri’s protest, and her interview about the case, the law firm recovers from the PR damage caused by the case.
As the episode concludes, Eun-kyung informs Yu-ri that she will be leaving the firm, and Yu-ri will now have to handle her cases on her own.
The Episode Review
This episode focuses on the issue of domestic violence and the societal stigma attached to the idea of divorce, due to which many victims of violence perish, unable to free themselves from their perpetrators.
However, even though the episode’s sentiments are noble, it doesn’t hide the fact that much of the episode’s themes feel superficial, especially with the characters trying to rejoice in the “justice” they’ve done for the victim, who died precisely because they hadn’t taken any action in the first place.
Overall, Good Partner seems to be dragging its plot unnecessarily, with little substantial content left to explore. With only three episodes remaining, the future of the show feels uncertain.
