Episode 10
Episode 10 of Good Partner begins with Jae-hui and Eun-kyung having breakfast together. Jae-hui expresses her desire not to visit her father over the weekend, and Eun-kyung, acknowledging her choice, agrees.
Meanwhile, at the law firm, Yu-ri’s new client is a friend of his mother’s. During the consultation, the client reveals her wish to divorce her husband because she is over 60 and wants to live life on her own terms. A flashback shows how the client devoted her entire life to serving her family. When she expressed a desire to write a book, her husband dismissed it as a joke. Yu-ri advises her that divorce isn’t the only solution to living independently, but the client remains resolute. Later, in a conversation with Eun-ho, she confides that, understanding the sanctity of marriage, she is trying to be cautious. However, Eun-ho responds that while marriage may be sacred, one person often dreams while the other suppresses their needs.
Eun-kyung later meets with Jae-hui, who tells her she wants the divorce case to be resolved quickly, despite Yu-ri’s warning about how long the process could take. Recognizing the toll the case is taking on Jae-hui, Eun-kyung meets with Kim Ji-sang to convey Jae-hui’s wishes. She also informs Eun-kyung.
Yu-ri then meets with Choi Sa-ra. After Sa-ra apologized to Eun-kyung, Yu-ri withdrew the lawsuit against her.
Meanwhile, Ji-sang and Eun-kyung meet with the family investigator, who informs them that Jae-hui wishes to live with her mother. This revelation shocks Ji-sang, who insists on seeing Jae-hui. However, Eun-kyung tries to make him realize how their conflict is negatively affecting their daughter.
Yu-ri’s client and her family attend a joint consultation with Eun-kyung after the client agrees to it. While her family opposes the divorce, with her children being self-centered and her husband unable to understand the reasons, the client finally speaks up. She tells them how all of them have been ignorant of her wishes and needs, treating her like a maid. Angered by her family’s behavior, she reiterates her desire to live for herself.
Elsewhere, Ji-sang returns to his apartment and finds Choi Sa-ra there. They argue, with Sa-ra wanting to live together, unlike Ji-sang. During the confrontation, Sa-ra has a miscarriage. Although she is taken to the hospital, the baby is already lost. They say their goodbyes at the hospital.
The next day, Ji-sang visits Jae-hui and takes her back to his house, where he apologizes to her. However, Jae-hui remains adamant and hurt. She tells him how he lied to her and her mother for a year about his affair with Sa-ra. Now, she wants him to be punished, and the greatest punishment for him is to live apart from her. She urges him to accept his punishment and close the case so that she and Eun-kyung can start a new life.
Elsewhere, Yu-ri’s client and her husband agree to live apart for two years. They plan to work on their relationship, but if she still wants a divorce after that time, her husband will consent. He has finally realized the importance of being a better partner to his wife.
In the next round of negotiations, Ji-sang hands over Jae-hui’s custody to Eun-kyung, and they settle the matter for her sake. While signing the divorce papers for the last time, Ji-sang apologizes to Eun-kyung, who urges him to be good parents for Jae-hui. Their marriage finally ends, and Choi Sa-ra leaves the city to return to her hometown.
Later that night, Jae-hui and Eun-kyung remove Ji-sang’s photos from their house. After Jae-hui goes to bed, Eun-kyung’s colleagues throw a divorce party for her. As they head home, Eun-kyung expresses her gratitude to Yu-ri for being an excellent divorce attorney. Yu-ri is overjoyed by the praise from her mentor. By the end of the episode, the two colleagues seem more like close friends. In the final scene, the CEO of the law firm asks Woo-jin to fire Eun-kyung.
The Episode Review
Although Good Partner in this episode highlights important social themes, such as how divorce primarily impacts children, the show itself lacks focus. Often, it introduces various plot threads only to conveniently abandon them as the focus shifts back to the main story.
The additional cases feel like mere fillers without much substance. While they do serve a thematic purpose, such as emphasizing how women sacrifice themselves for their families, they come across as vague commentaries. The contrast between the main plot and the divorce case is too stark, with the connections between them feeling superficial.
