Is The Girl From Plainville Based on a True Story?
Sadly enough, yes. The Hulu drama draws inspiration from Jesse Barron’s Esquire article, “The Girl From Plainville.” The article and the TV series are based on true events.
As in the show, the real Michelle Carter and Conrad Roy started texting each other back and forth after they met in 2012. Coerced to do so by his girlfriend, Coco committed suicide in 2014. In 2017, 20-year-old Michelle stood trial for charges of involuntary manslaughter.
