Ginny & Georgia – Season 1 Episode 9 Recap & Review

Feelings Are Hard

Episode 9 of Ginny & Georgia begins with Ginny regretting how mean she was to Marcus and messaging him constantly. He doesn’t message back though as Ginny learns Marcus is in hospital needing a CAT scan after his accident. When she looks out the window though, she sees Marcus return home.

After cheating on her boyfriend, Georgia sighs and tells Zion she needs to change. While she tries to sort out the Kenny situation on the phone, Ginny heads back to school again. Only, things are obviously tense as she decides against messaging Hunter and continues to try and communicate with Marcus. That evening at work she asks Joe for advice. He tells her she needs to be brutally honest about how she feels.

Back home, Austin plays hide and seek with Zion but finds all the letters that he sent to his Father hidden in the closet. Now he knows that his Father didn’t really message him after all, and he hurries off.

Zion decides to cook dinner for Georgia and the family. In fact, Ellen even comes over to eat too. This obviously brings up quite the dilemma as Clint asks quite who Georgia is actually dating – especially when Zion announces that he’s going to stick around this time.

The same could be said for Ginny too, who heads up to see Marcus. He’s passed out on the bed though, as Padma arrives. When she does, she senses that Ginny likes him. Ginny asks her not to say anything as Padma walks away silently.

Back at work, Georgia decides to go on the offensive for the elections and make good on Paul’s promises too. He and Nick both agree to do this as Cynthia finally sees Georgia stashing notes in her purse at the bank. The reason for this soon becomes clear, as Zion speaks to Ginny and informs her that they’re going to leave as he’s got them an apartment in Boston all ready to go. He claims Georgia is going to speak to Paul and break everything off that afternoon.

Speaking of which, Sophie breaks up with Maxine as she doesn’t see them working out in the future, especially when she goes to college. The girls head over to help but Ginny takes the opportunity to see Marcus and apologize. Eventually the pair kiss but Abby sees them in their room together. She confronts Ginny about her sneaking about with Marcus and implores the girl to keep it quiet for now given how upset Max is.

After the big rally drive outside, Georgia speaks to Paul and breaks the news that she slept with Zion. Paul doesn’t seem to care though and tells her that they both like power and are good together. It turns out he has a ring for her too, something he bought a day after their first date (Paul, come on mate…) but he tells her to choose. That choice is made easier when she returns home and finds Zion has packed his things. He knows how happy she is with Paul and is making things easier for her.

Before he skips town for good, Zion stops by to say goodbye to Ginny while she’s at work.

Ginny heads back to see Marcus and the two sleep with one another again. If Ginny hadn’t cheated on Hunter before she has now! Anyway, when she returns home Ginny receives a message from Hunter telling her they need to talk.

Cutting back to the past, we see Georgia show up at Zion’s door after killing Anthony. He bemoans her for leaving and eventually lets her in. The two begin snapping and fighting, as Zion contemplates getting a job.

Meanwhile, our PI heads in to see a judge who grants him the ability to run a toxicology report to see if Kenny had ingested some poisonous plants. Now the screw seems to be turning. That is, until he arrives at the grave site and sees that Kenny’s body is missing from his coffin.

If Georgia’s time being up is in doubt, Ginny’s most certainly is not. Maxine checks Marcus’ phone and notices the pictures he and Ginny have been sending together – including one of Ginny in her bra.

The Episode Review

The penultimate episode to Ginny & Georgia seems like we’re gearing up for the infamous Netflix cliffhanger at the end of season 1. There’s so much going on in this show and nowhere near enough time to flesh everything out in a compelling way to close things off in a satisfying manner.

Zion returning for the time being adds another injection of drama but now that he’s gone, it seems like Paul and Georgia are going to stay together.

Meanwhile, Ginny’s unresolved love triangle with Marcus and Hunter continues to build, with the ending looking like it’s going to explode in a massive, messy ball of drama.

Of course, with both Ginny & Georgia having cheated on their respective partners, will either of them get their comeuppance in the finale? We’ll have to wait and see.
