Ghosts – Season 4 Episode 5 Recap & Review

A Star is Dead

Episode 5 of Ghosts Season 4 begins with Sam breaking the news about a theatre production wanting to rent their ballroom. While the crew is gathered, Sasappis is enamoured with a theatre actor, Marissa. The crew finds that the lead actor had to pull out of the production, so there’s an audition to be held. Alberta encourages Sam to participate in the audition to fulfill her dream of performing on stage, but Sam denies.

Later, Sasappis meets Marissa through Jay’s dream and later reveals to the other ghosts that he’s dating her in Jay’s dreams, only to realize that it’s not Marissa but Jay’s figment of imagination. So, basically, Sasappis had been dating Jay. He becomes sad over this, and Pete comes forward to use his power to find more ghosts like him, bring them back to Woodstone, and play matchmaker for the housebound ghosts.

Meanwhile, Alberta convinces Sam to appear for the audition and conducts exhaustive training for Sam. On the day of the audition, though, Alberta is overcome with determination and decides to play dirty to ensure Sam gets the role.

She instructs Flower to go through Marissa so Marissa feels unwell and destroys her audition, but Flower ends up revealing this to Sam, who gets hurt. Alberta apologizes to her, explaining that she went too far since Alberta wanted to relive her glorious days performing on stage through Sam.

They reconcile, and through Alberta’s encouragement, Sam nails her audition, ultimately performing in the lead role as part of the crew!

The Episode Review

With only a 20-minute episode length, there are rarely shows that entertain you enough to keep you coming back, and Ghosts is one of them. As always, this episode is packed with the classic weird ghost humour, with Sasappis infiltrating Jay’s dream to date Marissa and asking Sam to think about her more so he can meet Marissa often.

At the same time, Hetty, Isaac, and Sasappis should open a sadist group by this point, as they enjoy themselves while others are in misery. Flash back to the disastrous rumors about Pete in the last episode, to now, Hetty and Isaac enjoying Alberta’s rigorous training while Sam suffers throughout.

Apart from its humour, Ghosts always has a knack for bringing out heartfelt stories, this time being Alberta and Sam. Their friendship really shines in this episode, with Alberta helping Sam overcome her fear of the stage, while Sam helps Alberta relive her days performing on stage. Overall, another enjoyable episode of Ghosts!
