Sam’s Dad
Episode 2 of Ghosts Season 4 begins with the news that Sam’s father is coming to stay with her and Jay, along with his girlfriend. Patience is completely against the couple sharing a room, and when tested, she unleashes her power to make the walls bleed, which scares off an unsuspecting delivery person.
Elsewhere, Flower and Thor want to break off their relationship with Nancy, while Isaac feels uncomfortable being in the same house as Nigel. They decide to swap roles: Isaac will break up with Nancy for Flower and Thor, while they ask Nigel to leave the house for Isaac.
Meanwhile, Sam’s father, who has been an absent parent for much of her life, arrives with his girlfriend. Sam and Jay try to suggest they sleep in separate bedrooms, but it comes across as if Sam doesn’t want her father and his girlfriend there. Despite this, they comply, though Sam’s father sneaks into his girlfriend’s room at night—while Patience watches the entire thing. The next morning, they wake up to “Sin” written in blood on the walls. They assume Sam is behind it, leading to an argument where Sam accuses her father of being absent from her life.
In the meantime, thanks to Isaac’s charming personality, he successfully conveys Flower and Thor’s breakup message to Nancy. However, the other two struggle to ask Nigel to leave, and eventually, Isaac tries to handle it himself but fails. Instead, he tells Nigel that he’ll move to the shed, feeling proud of his act of kindness.
The other ghosts overhear Sam’s father telling his girlfriend that Sam’s mother was the reason he could never be around when she was young. Sam apologizes to her father and expresses her desire to be closer, leading to a reconciliation. The couple decides to stay longer with Sam and Jay.
The episode ends with Nigel telling Isaac that he’ll be moving back to the shed himself since the ghosts there can’t stand having Isaac around!
The Episode Review
Another delightful episode from our lovable ghosts and their mortal hosts! Patience’s addition to the house is definitely bringing a fresh humor to this season, and her superpower is as creepy as she is. It’s hilarious how Patience is a parody of Puritanism—initially opposing Sam’s father and his girlfriend sharing a room, then encouraging them to “proliferate and multiply” once she learns they’re married.
Hetty’s one-liners continue to be entertaining, especially with her flaunting how the wealthy Woodstones had separate bedrooms. I love how the show seamlessly integrates history and pop culture alongside its humor. It might not be as iconic as the UK version, but it certainly works on its own.
Isaac’s struggle with his usual narcissism, alongside his attempt to become a better person, ultimately drives Nigel out of the house, providing an unexpected comic twist. Despite his efforts to be a good person, Isaac never quite succeeds, making for a classic, humorous ending. Way to go, Isaac!
