Patience
Episode 1 of Ghosts Season 4 begins with a flashback to 1962 when a woman named Patience is banished from her Puritan community for being too severe, as she argued for sentencing a five-year-old girl to death on charges of witchcraft for talking to a doll. She swears to become the most brutal and perfect Puritan ever.
The show then follows the aftermath of the last season’s finale, with Isaac breaking off his wedding to Nigel after Pete’s return. The ghosts discuss the botched wedding, while Sam and Jay talk about their restaurant with Mark and go in search of Isaac to get his thoughts on the tiles for the restaurant’s floor.
In the finale of the last season, Isaac was pulled into the dirt by the new ghost, Patience, with the help of the basement ghosts. While there, Patience accuses Isaac, Thorfin, and Sasappis of abandoning her, but Isaac, as usual, is able to convince Patience that the trio had been looking for her when she went missing. Believing Isaac, she quickly forgives him.
Meanwhile, at the house, Isaac has gone missing, and Sam, Jay, and the other ghosts look for him. We find Nigel brooding in the library after being abandoned by Isaac. Later, since one of the ghosts, Nancy, had been behaving oddly, she finally reveals that Patience had kidnapped Isaac. In a demonstration of how Isaac had been sucked into the dirt, Patience kidnaps Sasappis as well, acting upon Isaac’s feelings about missing his friends and wanting to be with them.
Now, everybody turns to Flower to uncover the location of the dirt, which Flower confirms to be under a willow tree. However, it is later revealed to be the lyrics of a song, with Jay becoming the lone victim of Flower’s unpredictable memory as he had been digging for hours.
While in the dirt cave, Isaac promises to be a better person once he’s outside the cave, once “God holds up His end of the bargain.” Eventually, Isaac and Sasappis mock the way Patience repeats her name, and she overhears them. Hurt, she decides to be alone and returns the two to their friends.
Later, Isaac decides to correct the wrong, with the ghosts making a human chain to pull Patience out of the dirt. Isaac and Sasappis apologize to her for abandoning her. The episode ends with Patience spending the night with Alberta, bombarding her with questions.
The Episode Review
The premiere of Ghosts Season 4 begins delightfully, adding yet another ghost to its repertoire and continuing right where the last season left off. The odd, hilarious Puritan ghost who accuses a child of witchcraft for talking to a doll will certainly bring interesting events in the upcoming episodes.
We also see Nigel moping around the house after a failed wedding ceremony, which indicates that he’s still in the picture. So, Isaac and Nigel’s now-transformed relationship is going to be something to look forward to.
