Episode 5
Episode 5 of GG Precinct begins with a flashback to 2001. The student couple catch Hsien paying Cheng-ta for the idiom’s book. They bully Hsien and extort money from him. But before they can leave with the book, Shui-yan interrupts and sends the couple away. Hsien shows interest as he has a photographic memory and Shui-yan offers to tutor him for free.
3 months later, Hsien visits Shui-yan in prison. He correctly guesses the idiom that Shui-yan used for the female bully’s murder and the teacher calls Hsien his best student.
At present, Hsien rambles on about his rights and refuses to answer any of Ming-han’s questions. However, Ming-han has an idea and he tells Shui-yan that his former student is the killer. Shui-yan doesn’t believe it and decides to talk to Hsien. Ming-han is jubilant as that was his initial plan. As he watches, Tzu-ching arrives and Ming-han apologises for undermining her. He offers her the lead but she refuses as he has cracked the case.
In the interrogation room, Hsien falls to his feet on seeing his former teacher. Shui-yan sympathises with him as they both agree that once they start own the wrong path, it is difficult to stop. But is a misunderstanding as Hsien is talking about sleeping with students while Shui-yan is talking about killing students.
Shui-yan is disgusted that his best student has such loose morals and attacks him. As the cops barge in to pry them apart, Hsien reveals that he wasn’t the one who solved Shui-yan’s murder idiom.
In the chaos, one of the interrogation rooms is left unguarded and Po-lun, the drug dealer escapes. He runs into Shao-nien who had worked with him while undercover. He believes that Shao-nien has been caught by the cops and they escape together.
To make matters worse, Mu-ting is found dead but the idiom is not from Shui-yan’s idiom book. From her building’s CCTV, the cops learn that the killer is a delivery personnel. They are sure that it is Cheng-ta who Shu-fen is currently following. Cheng-ta gets in a fight with a customer who gives him a bad rating and he attacks as she refuses to change it.
Shu-fen barges in and arrests him but he isn’t the killer as he was busy delivering elsewhere during the time of death. Even Hsien and Yumi’s manager, Pai-sheng have alibis– they were in the precinct while Mu-ting was killed. Having reached a dead-end, the Commissioner tells Chief Chang to be the bait. He holds a press conference and mentions the fourth idiom from Shui-yan’s book, but he says it wrong.
At the same time, Shui-yan insists on visiting Mu-ting’s home as he may find something the cops missed. Ming-han and Tzu-ching accompany him while the rest set a trap for the killer. Chang rents out a room and keeps ordering tons of coffee to catch the killer’s attention. As for the cops, they surround the building and keep an eye.
In Mu-ting’s home, Shui-yan wanders around and then asks for a podium. Tzu-ching sets up a makeshift podium out of a drawer. But it’s a trap as Shui-yan kicks the drawer at her and locks Ming-han out of the room. He knocks out Tzu-ching, takes the lock and frees himself from his chains. He then jumps out of the window and lands on the cops’ car. Ming-han finally breaks the door and follows him by jumping out of the window.
Meanwhile, Chang gets a message from the latest delivery personnel to come down and take the order. He realises that it is the killer and tells everyone to stay alert as he comes out.
At that moment, Shao-nien calls Shu-fen and shares that Po-lun saw the killer when he was leaving on the day the first victim was killed. It is not just a delivery personnel but a woman. Downstairs, a delivery bike speeds up and heads towards Chang who gets ready to fight at the end of GG Precinct Episode 5.
The Episode Review
Well, we were right on the money with the killer being Hsien’s sister. Good effort on GG Precinct Episode 5 with the Cheng-ta and Hsien red herrings but it is always the one who has been around from the beginning but no one guesses. However, it was fun to watch the cops running around, trying to figure out who the killer was when Chubby had been ordering from her all this while.
In fact, the actual plot twist is not the killer reveal but Shui-yan’s escape. The same guy who needed a mask and a straight jacket simply had 2 cops on him? No wonder it was so easy for him to play them all. With only 1 episode left, now it’s time to see if he is somehow related to the actual killer. It wouldn’t be too far-fetched to assume that she was also his student as Hsien confesses that it wasn’t him who solved the idiom.
