GG Precinct – Season 1 Episode 4 Recap & Review

Episode 4

Episode 4 of GG Precinct begins with a flashback in 2001. We see that Shua-yin is a popular cram teacher working at Cheng Tao Tutorials. The director has been receiving several complaints that Shua-yin is too strict and mean and he believes it is a bullying couple from his class who feel that way.

They are not the only ones as several students have left and gone to a new teacher who is funny. The director comments that Shua-yin is handsome so he should smile more and tell jokes. He is upset that she is cheapening education but she points out that he needs to adapt so that he at least has some students left to teach. 

He heads to class and sees that the student couple has drawn insults on his desk. They also outright bully and mock him as he claims he will be more lenient and tell jokes. He lets it slide and tells everyone jokingly to pay attention or he will kill them. Only one student finds this funny and laughs.

At present, Shua-yin claims that Huang Hsien was never his student. But he decides to help the cops by reminding them that he was allowed entry by his victims by pretending to be the delivery boy.

However, Ming-han is sure that Hsien is involved while Tzu-ching insists that Cheng-ta is their killer as he can easily get an entry as a delivery boy. Once again they bicker with Ming-han undermining her and Chang trying to play the diplomat.

Chang suggests that Tzu-ching should focus on Shua-yin and she is hurt as he doesn’t think she is capable. He then tells her to follow Cheng-ta and Ming-han to follow Hsien but she points out that they don’t have the resources. Resigned, she tells Shu-fen to look into Cheng-ta the next day as she heads to meet Shui-yan.

Meanwhile, Ming-han dresses up as a student and enrols in Hsien’s class. Shu-fen calls him and tells him to apologise to Tzu-ching as he was quite harsh with her. He is about to call her when he comes across photos of Hsien in Shui-yan’s class. He sends them to Tzu-ching and gloats that he is right.

At the same time, Tzu-ching looks quite downcast and Shui-yan tries to console her by saying he understands her loneliness. It cuts to her past as she has always been an outcast and overlooked by her family as well as in her education and career. She finally gets Ming-han’s message about Hsien being Shui-yan’s student and she is furious that Shui-yan has been toying with her. He reveals that Hsien was never his student but his assistant so he never lied.

In class, Ming-han observes that Hsien is charismatic and funny. All the students like him but there is one, Mu-ting who looks lovestruck. 

Meanwhile, the cops finally find Chang Po-lun who was seen leaving when the first victim was killed. However, he is a dead-end as he is just some small drug dealer who is constantly high.

Once class ends, Ming-han follows Mu-ting who goes on a date with Hsien. Suddenly, the precinct’s regular delivery girl shows up and throws a tantrum. She is angry that Hsien lied to her and he never takes her to fancy places. He drags her out and then hugs her. Ming-han and the staff think Hsien is cheating on the delivery girl. However, when he comes back inside, he tells Mu-ting that the delivery girl is his sister.

They resume their date but she starts talking in Gen-Z slang which gets on Hsien’s nerves. After they finish, he tries to dump her but he notices Ming-han following them. He rushes off in his car with Ming-han close behind him. Hsien believes he has lost him but the cop crashes into him. He claims he was being chased by a cop and Ming-han drags him to the precinct. Hsien just finds it funny and spouts an idiom.

At the same time, Shu-fen finds out that Cheng-ta was also Shui-yan’s student in 2001. Tzu-ching asks her to check what the fourth idiom in Shui-yan’s book is. We then see that Cheng-ta had watched the teary-eyed delivery girl leave the restaurant. As Mu-ting heads home, someone in the delivery personnel uniform stands outside her house with a hammer at the end of GG Precinct Episode 4.

The Episode Review

GG Precinct Episode 4 finally seems to introduce all the players in the mystery and also address the random clues it had peppered in the beginning. The drug dealer seems to be a red herring, meant to throw us off like the coroner. However, the bossy delivery girl not only is important, she just may be the killer or an accomplice. Not only is she Hsien’s sister but she is a delivery personnel who can easily go anywhere as Shui-yan explains.

On top of that, she had seen the precinct’s investigation board on the copycat killers and looked intrigued. And the final nail in the coffin is the fact that Cheng-ta doesn’t know Mu-ting. His being Shui-yan’s student just may have been a coincidence. We can gather that he must have befriended Hsien and his sister while he was in Shui-yan’s class and so must be sad that she looks teary-eyed. But he doesn’t know why she is crying.

The only one who knows Mu-ting, is wearing the delivery personnel uniform and has enough motive to kill her is Hsien’s sister. While it seems we have pretty much solved the mystery, we can’t help but tune in to see how the precinct will connect the dots.
