Get Through It
Episode 8 of Get Even begins at school the next day. Kitty finds herself continuously sinking down a dark hole and becomes distant with her friends. Even worse, the detectives arrive and speak to her about what happened to Mika.
They discuss Mika’s outburst at Ronny’s memorial and bring up the subject of the laptop. Only, Kitty is clearly frazzled by all this and finds an excuse to leave the office.
As she does, we cut back in time and see the moments leading up to the formation of the DGM. It all started on the back of a cross country sprint and a detention for the four kids. Their teacher? None other than Coach Creed himself.
While talking, they mention how unfair the school is and share stories reinforcing that unbalanced hierarchy currently operating at Bannerman. Kitty listens to them verbally jibe and suggests they do something about it.
Back in the present, the group discuss why they started the group and eventually settle on a new plan. As they all leave the cinema, Olivia and Margot share the walk and discuss their changed social fortunes and families. If there’s one good thing that’s come from all of this, it’s these two growing closer together as friends.
Back at school the next day, Shane and John both walk with Bree. As they do, they come across a dead bird on the way in. Is this an ominous sign of things to come? Bree crosses Kitty’s path and she tells her fellow member not to be nervous as they have a good plan. That plan comes in the form of them all paying tribute to Mika with balloons and launching them in the air.
It’s a touching tribute and one that’s followed up by a sign from DGM. Given how much scrutiny is hanging over the group though, Kitty gathers the troops on the rooftop and speaks her peace. She wants to break the group up and recommends that the others hand over the laptop.
On the back of this, Bree and her Father finally start to connect and get talking.
Back inside, the detectives confront Christopher and tell him to open his locker. Inside, they find a note saying “compliments from DGM”. He vehemently claims not to be responsible though as he’s taken away by the police. Is someone trying to frame Christopher? And if so, is it someone close to the DGM? We’ll have to wait and find out!
The Review Write-Up
With a nice touch at the end featuring Christopher being arrested, Get Even delivers one of its strongest episodes. Everything is just starting to unravel now and despite the formulaic melodrama, the mystery elements have actually been rather good. We’re still none the wiser over who the killer is though and there’s lot of questions still to be answered.
Given there’s only two episodes left, Get Even leaves the door wide open for where this one may go next.
