From Me to You: Kimi Ni Todoke – Season 3 Episode 3 Recap & Review

Girlfriend and Boyfriend

Our ‘From Me to You: Kimi Ni Todoke’ season 3 episode 3 recap and review follows the aftermath of the trip. Sawako is still turning into stone at the concept of sharing a kiss, Chizu is still over the top regarding any talks about Ryu, and Yano is still struggling with the identity she’s created for herself along with added awkwardness with Kento.

Yano gets an offer to join the hilarious “Kenta Girls,” a platonic fangirl group for Kenta, but she rejects it, saving herself from being part of the group. Later, she meets with Kento at the train station and realizes he’s a good guy since he comes to keep her company on her side of the platform.

Meanwhile, Chizu is extremely bothered by Ryu’s confession, worrying about their changing relationship. As a result, she skips school the next day, forgetting her lunch, which Ryu brought to school only to find her missing. Kento gives Sawako a pep talk on being courageous. Yano and Sawako decide to visit Chizu.

Meanwhile, Chizu, who’s been near the port all this while, is visited by Shota with her lunch. Ryu had requested him to visit Chizu. A short while later, Sawako and Yano also find Chizu.

We then delve into Ryu and Chizu’s past, where both their mothers had been friends. Ryu and Chizu had always been together, with Ryu being the quiet child and Chizu as wild as always. She’d always understood Ryu, who was often misunderstood in elementary school. This is also when Ryu found out that Chizu had feelings for Toru and played a huge role in comforting Chizu when she saw Toru with his girlfriend.

Their lives took a turn when Ryu’s mother passed away in an accident on an exceptionally snowy day. While they all mourned her death, Ryu didn’t even cry. Toru went on to leave for university. Chizu then promised to be Ryu’s sibling, always by his side. Eventually, through her efforts, Ryu did end up crying as the two children comforted each other. Their history together is why Chizu rejected Ryu, telling him that she’d never considered him in a romantic way.

We jump back to the present, and Chizu brings Ryu some of her lunch, his favorite rice balls. She finally tells him about all her conflicting feelings, and Ryu boldly encourages her to believe that he likes her so they can finally start a different chapter of their lives.

The next day, Sawako informs Shota about spending Christmas together since she got permission from her parents to celebrate with her friends. Shota agrees, but Sawako feels comically disappointed that he didn’t want to spend Christmas privately with her but with the class group.

The Episode Review

In this episode, the beloved anime finally reveals the backstory of Chizu and Ryu. The episode is a proper tearjerker, especially following the two’s journey through Ryu’s mother’s death. We also understand why Chizu has been worried about Ryu’s confession, as that would mean she cannot be his “sibling” anymore. There are bound to be changes in their relationship, and that’s a realistic and reasonable cause for concern for Chizu.

In the meantime, Shota has been trying to create some distance between himself and Sawako, possibly after the Okinawa trip. We don’t really know the reason behind his decision just yet. On the other hand, Yano and Kento seem to be getting familiar with each other, and who knows what that might lead to.

Overall, this episode has been the most touching yet. With this we come to an end of our ‘From Me to You: Kimi Ni Todoke’ season 3 episode 3 recap and review. We’ll meet you in the next one!
