Revelations: Chapter Two
Episode 10 of From Season 3 begins with Ellis confronting Boyd and Kenny about his suspicion that Elgin knows where Fatima is. This leads the group, including Sara and Donna, to gather at the Colony House. Boyd hopes to use Sara to talk to Elgin and convince him that the evil manipulating him is not real. However, Elgin remains unyielding, pushing Boyd to resort to torture in an attempt to extract information about Fatima’s whereabouts. Despite Boyd’s efforts, Elgin doesn’t give in.
During this tense moment, Acosta arrives and finds the group’s actions questionable, sparking an argument. Meanwhile, Sara escalates the situation—she attacks Elgin’s eye and discovers through her violent act that Fatima is in the Root Cellar. While this unfolds, Fatima gives birth to something that the woman in the kimono takes underground through a trapdoor.
Elsewhere, Jim and Ethan discover that Tabitha fell through Victor’s trapdoor. They rush to her, and she explains to Jim that she felt Victor’s mother’s presence while in the Root Cellar and saw the ghost children again. Jim involves Jade, and together with Tabitha, they try to piece together what is happening. Tabitha recounts how the symbol she saw came to be—a representation of the hopes of children sacrificed by their parents. They brainstorm the meaning of the numbers in the bottles until Jim mentions the 12 notes of a music scale.
This breakthrough allows Jade to decipher the numbers, and a melody comes to him. Jim retrieves Victor’s mother’s violin from the basement, and as they play near the Bottle Tree, ghostly children begin to appear. One child approaches Tabitha, and she and Jade realize that “Anghkooey” means “remember.” Tabitha reveals to Jim that she and Jade were the parents of one of the ghost children, explaining why they have been trapped in this town for lifetimes. Tabitha is a reincarnation of Victor’s mother, while Jade is Christopher’s. In a distant past life, their child became one of the ghost children.
Simultaneously, Ellis, Boyd, and Kenny reach the Root Cellar, where Fatima directs Boyd to the underground tunnel. Boyd ventures into it and witnesses the baby transform into a creature—the same creature he killed earlier in the season.
Meanwhile, Jim reflects on the day he and his family arrived in the town, but his contemplation is interrupted when Julie appears and warns him to run. A creature arrives, repeating the same ominous warning from Season 2: Jim’s wife shouldn’t have dug the basement. The creature then brutally kills Jim, ripping his throat apart.
The Episode Review
The finale left me with mixed feelings. Of all three seasons, this one is the most underwhelming. The show initially hooked viewers with its fresh concept—a mysterious town haunted by nightmarish creatures. Season 1 excelled as a mystery thriller, and parts of Season 2 maintained that intrigue. However, the introduction of time travel in this season—despite Ethan’s statement that the past cannot be changed—feels misplaced. It’s uncertain how this will impact the plot moving forward.
What does stand out is the revelation that the town operates within a closed loop. Not only are the roads endlessly closing in, but even characters like Jade and Tabitha are trapped in repetitive cycles across multiple lifetimes. The idea resembles a time loop, with characters needing to break the cycle to escape their fate. Victor’s ominous warnings about an impending massacre appear to be coming true.
While this concept has potential, its execution in Season 3 falls flat. The show has strayed from its horror and thriller roots, which initially defined its appeal. Moving forward, the hope is that From returns to its horror-thriller essence and develops its intriguing themes with greater depth and impact, and increase that tempo!
