These Fragile Lives
Episode 7 of From Season 3 begins with Boyd and the others at the clinic, where Fatima claims that something is inside her and it’s growing, while Kristi feels that it’s either a rare condition of psychosomatic pregnancy or the town is finally getting to Fatima. Fatima then leaves the clinic to go back home, with Ellis and Boyd following her. Back at the Colony House, Mari tries to talk to Fatima, but she’s slowly spiraling out of control. When Boyd shares the news with Donna, Donna suggests that it would be dangerous to have Fatima and Ellis at the Colony House, and this makes Boyd more frustrated.
Now, Jade, Ethan, and Tabitha end up meeting Jim near the totems, which Tabitha had seen in her dreams. She explains how she’d seen the nightmare over and over as a child. Listening to her story, Jade feels that it might have been destined for Tabitha to arrive at the town. It’s an uncomfortable thought that suggests there might not even be an escape anymore.
Meanwhile, Elgin, while fiddling with the camera, is led to the underground bunker, where he finds a corpse inside a room. The lady in the kimono also appears in the room, and it seems Elgin is helping her with something, although we don’t know what it is yet.
Meanwhile, the new cop who’d arrived in town is going through the entire newcomer process, trying to find a way out. Kenny explains everything to her, but she’s inconsolably angry. She later threatens Boyd to give her back her gun, which Boyd eventually does but without the bullets. He says she can have the bullets when he thinks she deserves them. Meanwhile, Bakta, the bus driver who’d arrived in season 2, asks Kenny if they could reopen the diner.
Henry is having a tough time with Victor, especially since Victor is frustrated about Jasper not speaking to him. Victor later goes over to Sara’s basement to try and get something out of Jasper.
Meanwhile, Tillie is kind toward Ellis and tries to help out the couple. Elsewhere, Julie reveals to Randall that she hasn’t been able to get a driver’s license, so Randall shows her how to drive the van at the Colony House. While going through the woods, they chance upon the place where Boyd had gotten the worms under his skin. Julie wants to check the ruins since she can “feel it,” but Randall finally gets her to leave the place be, sensing the evil within it.
Back at the Colony House, Fatima is suffering from intense pains. She finally gets to the greenhouse to munch on the rotten vegetables when the pain hits again. Tillie sees her suffering and comes forward to help, but in the heat of the moment, Fatima stabs her with scissors. Dying, Tillie tells her to run away as Ellis comes in to see what Fatima has done as the episode ends.
The Episode Review
It’s been seven episodes of season 3, and we are virtually nowhere yet. The characteristic From jumpscares, eerie atmosphere, and creepy events are nowhere to be found. Since the last episode, the plot feels more like a drag, with the story seemingly at a standstill.
The usual mysteries are still in place, with Tabitha’s revelations about her childhood nightmares, Fatima’s inexplicable pregnancy, and Elgin’s cooperation with the kimono lady, but it all seems like half-baked, empty promises where the plot leads nowhere. With just three episodes remaining until the season’s end, it’s high time that From pumps up the tempo and gives viewers something worth watching

Well said. I watch this show keenly with my son, and we’re starting to wonder if we should continue. When the new cop asked Kenny the basic questions of “why is this a diner?” etc we were hoping for some explanations, but they even managed to ignore that, while telling us everyone had already gotten answers to those questions. Much like the “why is there a motel sign and no motel?” from a few episodes a go after Henry arrived in town.
I really hope they can start delivering some information given all the actual horror action has all but disappeared this season.
