Fright Krewe is an interesting story about some high school kids from NOLA who accidentally unleash an evil spirit on the city. To combat this disaster, they receive supernatural powers from the legendary “voodoo queen” Marie Laveau and the protective spirits called loas from the voodoo tradition. As they dive into the mysterious world of the supernatural, they find themselves in the center of myths and folklore, all set against the colourful backdrop of New Orleans.

In Fright Krewe, the teens getting superpowers is a classic but awesome twist, and the creators use it cleverly to highlight each character’s uniqueness. The show kicks off by showcasing how the characters’ powers help them tackle danger and spark lively interactions among them. Soleil, a horror enthusiast, is thrilled with her ability to control fire, while Pat, who has become a professional at voodoo rituals, is excited about his newfound skills to communicate with animals, speak different languages, and even heal.

Maybe the introverted one can step into the shadow realm, where he often encounters spirits. In addition, there’s Missy, who used to be the popular girl but now has a tough time managing her superpower as a rougarou, especially after a heart-wrenching event. Each character has their own journey to navigate. Stan, for instance, can casually learn an object’s history just by touching it, making him a perfect ally when the group is dealing with the supernatural.

The Fright Krewe writer cranks up the teen adventure, diving into battles against spooky powers and giving us a look into the characters’ minds as they handle their new powers. Season 2 goes a step further into New Orleans folklore, and we get to see more of the complex relationships within the protagonist’s Krewe. It digs deep into New Orleans folklore. Things get real when Soleil breaks the spell by the Voodoo queen, unleashing a not-so-friendly spirit.

To combat these supernatural threats, Soleil and her friend, known as the Fright Krewe, get magical powers from the Loa. Sure, the idea of teens saving the world isn’t groundbreaking, but the twist of using Voodoo magic and high schoolers as the heroes are fresh. It’s a theme that’ll hook viewers of all ages, especially those who love a good scare and an adventure-packed storyline.

Fright Krewe really brings it home when it pertains to the animation. The first season sets up most of the main characters, but it’s the second season where things get really creepy. This season has no shortage of some seriously nightmare-inducing monsters, like Kooshma and her kids and The Reveler.

The climax is also well choreographed and not just for kids; adults will also be having a laugh and scare too. When it comes to animation, Maybe’s scenes and all the Rougarou moments are standout. The animation keeps you hooked throughout, adding to the suspense and making it a must-watch for any horror fan. The characters in the show are like a well-mixed gumbo, each one is unique and flavourful.

The character development, especially of Soleil and Missy, is one of the big positives. Soleil’s journey from losing her powers to regaining them is a rollercoaster of emotions. Missy’s struggle to hide her true self to protect non-human creatures renders her character more interesting and layered. Maybe’s reunion with his brother and Stanley and Missy getting back together are heartwarming moments. The bond between the Fright Krewe grows stronger with each episode, showing their willingness to do anything for each other.

The characters in Fright Krewe Season 2  all have fantastic voiceovers, making them truly unique, be it Soleil, the horror fanatic turned hero, or Missy, who went from popular girl to loner. On the other front is Pat, the Voodoo enthusiast who grows braver and more powerful, using his skills for good. Each character has their own distinct voice and traits that make them stand out.

The voice cast is a talented bunch! We have Sydney Mikayla as Soleil, Tim Johnson Jr. as Will ‘Maybe’ Satchel, Terrence Little Gardenhigh as John Patrick ‘Pat’ Patterson, Grace Lu as Missy Dalisay, Chester Rushing as Stanley Rodriguez-Jones, Krizia Bajos as Luciana / Spider, Chris Jai Alex as Otis Bunrady, Jacques Colimon as Belial, and Josh Richards as Nelson Furst.

Fright Krewe Season 2 has all the reasons to be the ultimate binge-watch, packed with 10 episodes of monster mayhem and teenage drama. It explores the epic battle between creatures of the night and a group of brave kids who are not only fighting for their lives but also dealing with the usual drama of growing up. The voice acting is top-notch, bringing the characters to life, and the animation is stunning, making the monsters even creepier.

From the spine-chilling creatures to the eerie soundtrack, everything sets the perfect tone for what’s coming next. The series undermines that that no matter how tough things get, having your friends around can make all the difference. It’s a reminder that our actions have consequences and that love and friendship should always come first, even when things spiral out of control. Not to mention the super creepy monsters and scenes that really amp up the whole horror ambiance. It’s definitely a must-watch, so make sure to stream it!
