Fright Krewe – Season 2 Episode 8 “The Descent” Recap & Review

The Descent

Episode 8 begins, and we learn that Missy has been infected by the decaying demon and is slowly rotting and corrupting. Maybe has managed to open the portal to the underworld, but reveals that they can’t cross over to the other side with their power, which means they’ll be heavily outnumbered and underpowered.

Plus, Maybe has to stay behind and keep the portal open so the group can return to the mortal world. Jason agrees to stay with Missy, whereas the rest decide to cross over to the underworld. Meanwhile, the town is having a hard time keeping themselves on their toes while fighting the decaying demon. They try to hit the demon with cleaning products, but nothing seems to work.

Belial is also there and has a front-row seat to all the chaos so he can feed on people’s fears and become stronger. Pat, Stanley, and Claire enter the underworld and find the place to be as expected, rife with monsters and demons. Some are giant spiders, while others have eyes for teeth. No matter the appearance or size, they all are dangerous and can easily kill anyone.

The group notices the massive crystal, but getting there is no easy feat, thanks to monsters and silvery lava spewing from holes on the surface. Back on the surface, the townspeople are doing all they can to stop the demon. They try their best, but the demon ends up destroying Lou’s restaurant. However, the townspeople promise that they’ll help him rebuild the town again.

Missy is also not having a great time, as the corruption has started to spread, and she doesn’t have much time. In the underworld, Pat and Stan decide to take a traditional tack to destroy the evil crystal known as the Moulder Stone. However, the crystal is cunning and tries to use their fears against them.

It attempts to strip Pat of his hope and Stanley of his beloved handsome face. Surprisingly, Claire remains unaffected by the crystal’s dark powers. Just then, the Gruches, banished to the underworld after their defeat in the real world, make their presence known.  Claire’s dark flames, reminiscent of Belial’s, lead her to doubt herself, fearing she may be inherently evil like Belial.

Thankfully, Pat and Stan reassure Claire that what truly matters is how she chooses to use her powers— for either good or evil. Understanding their message, Claire decides to use her flame powers for good, ultimately destroying both the Gruches and the Moulder Stone. As soon as the stone breaks into a million pieces, the demon itself turns to dust, and the town is saved.

Things turn intense when Claire starts to lose control over her powers, but Stan calms her down like he did last time. Maybe opens the portal again, and the trio manages to cross over to the human world just in the nick of time. Brock once again tries to manipulate everyone into believing that they can’t trust the monsters and need to get rid of them, but no one pays heed to what he says and walks away.

Missy is also cured, and the best thing is that she once again gets back with Nelson, her crush. As for Belial, he appears again, saying that the demon was just a distraction and that while the group was in the underworld trying to destroy the crystal, he possessed their entire town.

The Episode Review

Despite Belial’s loss against the decaying demon, he manages to outmanoeuvre the group by possessing the entire town while they are away destroying the moulder stone. It seems that Belial is planning to strike a deal with Claire, offering to spare the townspeople in exchange for her help.

Knowing Claire’s kind-hearted nature, it’s clear that she will go to great lengths to protect her loved ones and the townspeople, even if it means making a deal with Belial.
