Found – Season 2 Episode 5 “Missing While Presumed Dead” Recap & Review

Missing While Presumed Dead

Episode 5 of Found Season 2 starts with a flashback to 23 years ago. 52 days after Gabi and Lacey escaped. Gina was struggling to help Lacey forget her trauma. She signed her up for art therapy, but Lacey kept scribbling her drawings with a black crayon. Gina was worried that Lacey had lost her joy. Gabi was also worried about her dad, who refused to go to therapy with her.

Presently, Lacey is struggling to remember what happened when Sir took her the second time. She is giving her statement to Trent, but she can’t put the pieces together. Trent suggests they talk about the company, but Lacey says they are fine. Trent tries to insinuate that Gabi might have helped Sir escape. Lacey defends Gabi and asks Trent to try and get Gabi in another way.

Speaking of Gabi, she learns that Christian is back in town when he follows her to work. He promises he is there to help and tells her where he will be staying for the next few days. Inside the office, Gabi is surprised that Margaret called the Diaz family to tell them they found their daughter. Apparently, on the previous day, Margaret came across the news of a young boy found abandoned. Margaret felt that the kid is Adella’s son. Adella has been missing for seven years. She disappeared when she was sixteen and the police believed her dad killed her. However, Margaret thinks otherwise. Sadly, the boy the police found is only 4 years old, and he is not talking.

Gabi, though suspicious as nothing is verified, agrees to take on the case. She starts giving orders but Margaret notifies her that she has covered most of the things like calling the police to ask for a DNA test. Margaret later tells Gabi that she is trying to make sure that she can handle the job when Gabi is gone. Gabi heads to the police. Trent tells her that the police identified the blood on the boy’s jacket as Adella’s. Unfortunately, the boy is not talking, and Trent wants them to wait for DNA. However, Gabi says that the blood indicates Adella might be injured and they are running out of time. She shows the boy a picture of Adella and he says she is her mom. With that, they move on with the case.

The team starts by talking to Adella’s parent. Margaret senses that the mom is distressed. As for the dad, he feels angry and worried because the police blamed him and assumed Adella was dead. Later, they tell the Diaz family that the boy, Matteo, might be their grandson and Adella might be alive. They start looking deeper into where Matteo was found and how Adella was kidnapped. They look at the detective who investigated the case. It turns out Detective Edwards was fired a few years ago. They also look into Adella’s boyfriend, Tyler, at the time she went missing. Tyler took a restraining order against Adella’s dad.

As the others investigate the multiple leads, Gabi holds a press conference to ask for help to find Adella. However, the press is more curious about the police’s incompetence in solving the case. They interview Mr. Diaz and he expresses his frustration with the police. Later, Gabi and Dhan talk to Tyler and learn that Edwards interviewed him more than once but never reported it. Tyler also says that Edwards seemed too hung up on blaming Diaz for what happened to Adella. Tyler is sorry that he left Adella near her house on the night in question and later dumped her phone. However, he had nothing to do with her disappearance.

At the same time, Senior Trent also shows up to help with the case. He used to be a police officer and knows about the investigation into Adella’s disappearance. He and Trent have a troubled relationship. However, Senior Trent picks up on the tension between Gabi and Trent. He later warns Gabi to stay away from  Trent. At the same time, Detective Edwards considers committing suicide when Trent and Gabi bring him in. After he calms down, he admits that he framed Mr Diaz because it was the easiest way to solve the case!

At Mosley and Associates, Lacey works with Matteo to try and get him to talk. She notices he has a toy car that comes from a local restaurant, but their investigation into the restaurant doesn’t lead anywhere. On the other hand, Sir sneaks into Christian’s hotel room and asks him to deliver a message to Gabi. Initially, Christian tries to talk to Sir and make him see how he is hurting Gabi, but his elder brother insists that Gabi is his soulmate. He believes that Gabi will come to him willingly. When Christian brings up their mother’s death, Sir doesn’t admit he killed her. He simply says she tortured him for years and he took the abuse on behalf of Christian.

After Christian delivers Sir’s recording to Gabi, the team argues on whether to listen to it. Margaret and Dex are against it since they are tired of Sir involving himself in their case. Dhan doesn’t care much, and Lacey wants Gabi to do everything to save Adella. In the end, Gabi listens to the recording. She envisions having a conversation with Sir as he tells her the details.

The others worry as they watch Gabi talk to herself. Sir thinks that the kidnapper is someone who likes to watch the family from afar and lives close by. In the meantime, they also find a note in Matteo’s jacket. Adella wrote the note, asking the police to take Matteo to his grandparents and describe their kidnapper. The description leads them to the restaurant owner. They realise that 7 years ago, Adella went missing near his house. They find him planning to flee and arrest him. They later find Adella in his basement.

The team reunites Adella with her family and son. At the press conference, Trent apologises for the police incompetency in the case. He announces a new task force to make sure no one suffers, like the Diaz family again. He also notes he wants the police to do their job so vigilantes like Gabi don’t have to save the people. Gabi is offended by his statement, but slowly walks away.

After wrapping up the case, Gabi talks to her colleagues and apologises again. She says she is prepared to pay for her mistakes. Lacey then tells the team that she remembered Sir talking to someone when he had her hostage. It seems like Sir is not working alone and has a trusted confidante.

The scene cuts to a flashback of a young Lacey drawing Sir in jail. She told Gabi that her joy could only come after Sir was in jail. Currently, Gabi recalls that and tells Dhan that Trent won’t stop until she is in jail. Before that, she has to set a few things straight. Dhan thinks Gabi can get away with her crime, but she refuses. Gabi lists a few things that she needs to give everyone before she goes. She wants Margaret to find her son, Sir to get arrested and Zeke needs distance. As they talk, Trent calls Dhan and informs him that Margaret has been arrested.

The Episode Review

Gabi and her colleagues are currently in a bad place. Everyone is angry at Gabi for what she did. Trent is also angry and hurt and lashes out at Gabi by using his job as a cop. Understandably, he wants justice to prevail, but we all know this is more than that. Gabi broke his heart, and he is reeling.

I wonder what Margaret did to get arrested. Ever since Gabi revealed what she did to Sir, Margaret has been tripping. Her trust in Gabi is shaken to the core. In her talk with Dhan, she told him that she thinks everyone is out for themselves. She doesn’t feel they are a family or a team anymore. She is supposed to be at the bus station, so did something happen while she was there?

This week’s episode touched on police incompetency. The Diaz family suffered for seven years because Detective Edward wanted to solve the case easily. He framed Adella’s dad and victimised him twice. Unfortunately, this led to Adella being a hostage for seven years. Trent has promised to do better, but he is also planning to use this task force to build a case against Gabi.
