Flex X Cop – K-drama Episode 7 Recap & Review

Reporter Gi-Seok Opens A Pandora Box

Episode 7 of Flex X Cop starts with Team 1 arriving at the scene of the murder of the CEO of SW SOFT, Choi Seonu. After checking out the murder scene, I-soo and Gang-hyun visit Seonu’s wife, and they learn that he had told her about someone wanting to kill her and asked her to run away.

Kyung-jin finds his car abandoned on the road while the forensics report says that Seonu died of dehydration. It seems that Choi Seonu’s murder is going to be a difficult case, and I-soo keeps verbalising it to annoy Gang-hyun.

Seonu’s dashboard camera footage shows that he left his car on the road and met with someone else. They had a heated argument with the other person, saying they should stop doing something, which made Seonu furious. Kyung-jin finds out that the last person Seonu talked to was a psychiatrist. Therefore, Jun-young and Kyung-jin are tasked with looking for the mysterious man while I-soo and Gang-hyun visit the hospital to talk to the psychiatrist.

The psychiatrist refuses to divulge any important information regarding Seonu’s diagnosis unless the detectives come back with a warrant. However, she tells them that Seonu had constantly called her the last few days in a panic, saying that someone was trying to kill him.

Meanwhile, Jun-young and Kyung-jin find the identity of the mysterious man. He is Cho Sung-gu, the customer management team leader at SW SOFT. They learned that the company was in a bad state, and Seonu had used company funds to invest in coins, and the investment plunged. Moreover, Sung-gu found out about it and was blackmailing Seonu, saying he would charge him with embezzlement.

Jun-young finds out Sung-gu’s address, and they go to look for him at his house only to find him dead. All the money he had blackmailed from Seonu is still in the house. Ji-won thinks that he has been dead for over a week and was killed by a professional.

After investigating the scene, they find fingerprints on the money bag that belongs to I-soo’s ex-girlfriend. She has significant anger management issues, and the team decides that the best person to question her is I-soo. He finds out that she was blackmailed by Sung-gu when he found out that she had mental health issues and had visited a psychiatrist. It happens that she saw the same psychiatric hospital as Seonu.

I-soo receives a message from his father asking him to join the family for an interview since he is also part of the Jin family. He gets a contrary message from his stepmother directing him not to step foot in the house for the interview.

I-soo decodes to piss off his stepmother by showing up to the interview, and he steals the show from her as the reporters become increasingly interested in him and the cases he is handling than the lovey-dovey discussion about “how I met your mother.” However, his father seems happy to see I-soo as he subtly smiles and asks the reporters to take another family photo.

After the interview, I-soo does not stay for a meal but joins Gang-hyun and her parents later. Gang-hyun’s mother is happy about the possibility of a romantic relationship.

The following day, Gang-hyun and I-soo revisit the psychiatric hospital to ask the doctor about Sung-gu. The doctor claims she has no idea who the man is when they show him his picture. This time, the doctor started to panic since she had the duty of ensuring the safety of her patients’ information, and she could lose her job for not protecting the patients’ privacy. Therefore, she cannot help the detectives by divulging patient information unless they have a warrant.

Gang-hyun gets a call and steps out, and I-so takes the opportunity to ask the doctor about his dream. The doctor says that a dream is like a letter from the subconscious and that some of his memories might be repressed. The dreams tell him his subconscious has something to say to him.

Elsewhere, Seung-jun hands his father the latest poll reports, and for the first time, he surpasses his opponent in approval ratings, especially among the young people. Myeong-chul receives a text from the doctor telling him that I-soo is dreaming about something and that he might regain his memories soon.

Meanwhile, reporter Gi-seok arrives at I-soo’s hometown to investigate an incident from 25 years ago. He rings I-soo’s doorbell but gets no reply, so he goes to gang-hyun’s house, where her father answers the door. Gi-seok knows Hang-hyun’s father was in charge of a case in that house 25 years ago. Mr Lee quickly puts two and two together and learns that his investigation is related to the election, and Gi-seok tells him that the case is a hidden card by the opposition. Regardless, he refuses to talk to the reporter.

Kyung-jin finds a connection between Sung-gu and Seonu. Due to the dire financial situation in his company, Seonu used his access to the customer database at YK Psychiatric Hospital to blackmail wealthy patients. In the deleted chats, Sung-gu mentions a USB, and the detectives start a search for the critical piece of evidence in the case. Kyung-jin and Jun-young searched the office while Gang-hyun and I-soo headed to Sung-gu’s house.

On arrival, the security personnel asks gang-hyun to move his car, and I-soo heads in alone. Inside the apartment, he finds a suspect who is also looking around, and they get into a fierce fight. The suspect handcuffs I-soo to a workout machine before heading out, and Gang-hyun passes him as he exits the elevator. Inside the apartment, I-soo notices a lifeline, and he uses it to jump off the window in pursuit of the suspect and apprehend him. His reckless behaviour angers Gang-hyun.

Later, at the office, Gang-hyun’s mother calls her to tell him about Reporter Gi-seok asking around for I-soo’s house. She tells him that the reporter said he is investigating a case from 25 years ago about a woman who died in the house. Gang-hyun looks up the case from the police database and finds out that her father was in charge of the suicide case of I-soo’s mother.

The report says that I-soo, who was seven years old then, was found sitting beside his mother’s lifeless body, drowning in a bathtub. I-soo does not remember his mother’s death since he told Gang-hyun that his mother was in a car accident.

The Episode Review

The episode is about handling another rich man’s case, this time delving into blackmail and misuse of company resources. It seamlessly blends in the solution of the mystery surrounding the death of I-soo’s mother by blending the case to the psychiatric hospital that I-soo seems to have visited when he was young but forgot about it.

The mysterious woman whom I-soo’s father had talked to on the phone after I-soo went back to his childhood home is the psychiatric doctor at YK Hospital. The only question that lingers as we wait for the next episode is whether I-soo’s mother committed suicide or she was killed.

Could it be that the case that I-soo was narrating about at the start of the series is about his mother? Let us wait to find out more about the mystery of the suicide in the next episode.
