Family Guy – Season 22 Episode 5 “Baby, It’s Cold Inside” Recap & Review

Baby, It’s Cold Inside

Peter has forgotten his anniversary leaving Lois mad about it. When questioned, he instinctively lies about having a surprise gift planned for her and that he would reveal it later in the evening.

Stewie, while out on a walk with Brian, stumbles upon a mini-fridge put out in the neighbourhood as trash. He wants to put it in his room.

In Clam, Peter’s friends pitch multiple suggestions his way as to how he can arrange a birthday present in less than a few hours. In the end, Sheamus suggests he take Lois on a boat ride across Quahog Harbor. Peter thinks it’s a good idea.

Stewie is showing off his new fridge to Rupert. Brian suggests he get rid of the thing, but Stewie as usual shrugs off Brian’s concerns.

Lois is so pleased with Peter’s surprise boat ride anniversary gift, but the pleasure is short-lived. A shark strikes, and Peter flees immediately with the boat leaving Lois to die alone. Thankfully, what appeared to be a shark turns out to be a dolphin, and Lois safely swims back to the shore. The next morning, a sad Lois expresses her disappointment in Peter.

In the other corner of Griffin family, the fridge thing has gone to Stewie’s head, and he’s become the obnoxious cool guy everyone hates. He’s got a new roommate, an electric guitar, a cap, and many more things that he wouldn’t be needing in all probability. Stewie reveals he has planned a wild party for his friends.

Peter tries to make up for what he did to no avail. Lois is truly disappointed. She tells Peter that she can’t see him as the man she once did. Peter’s friends decide to make him Lois’ hero again through a planned accident where Peter would do the heroic thing.

Stewie’s party is lit up with youngsters, drinks, and loud music. He convinces Brian to jump in. Brian joins the party, but a drunk Stewie leaves the fridge door open.

In the plan gone wrong, Peter falls into the water, and a shark attacks him. Lois jumps into the water to save him. Peter admits to rigging the whole thing in order to win back her respect. Lois forgives him, and the couple is happy again.

The next morning, Brian discovers the mini-fridge accident has left Stewie frozen.

The Episode Review

With their latest episode, Family Guy plays a record we have heard more than multiple times. Peter doing a stupid thing and then unsuccessfully trying to fix things up and Stewie getting all worked up for nothing. It’s not to suggest we don’t like them doing what they do, but we want a better plot. This is one such episode where you can correctly guess how the climax would shape up in the first couple of minutes of the narrative. Churning out fresh ideas might not be as easy as it sounds especially for a show into its 22nd season, but we believe Family Guy has it to bring back the glory.
