Faith No More
As episode 15 of Family Guy Season 22 starts, the Griffins are seen at the vet with Brian. A lady nurse gives Brian stitches. As usual, Brian is bent on flirting with her. She asks him to join her at a concert. Once he gets to know she is a devout Christian, he tells her the only person he’s a fan of is Jesus to impress her.
At home, the Griffins are watching the Italian Tony Awards. As Brian tries to step out of the house, he is interrupted by Lois who notices a hefty rosary around his neck.
During the concert, Brian gets mad over the lady and ends things with her after she refuses to engage in sex with him due to her Christian values.
Back home, Brian is thinking of ways he can get rid of Christianity. He decides to use Stewie’s time machine to go back in time and stop Christianity from ever taking place. Brian is in Israel to take down Jesus. He gets to interact with Jesus who informs him he never wanted to be a Messiah in the first place. Instead, he wishes to be a stand-up comedian.
Motivated after a conversation with Brian, Jesus decides to confront God so he can convince him to allow him to follow his passion. After initial resistance, God ultimately gives in and allows Jesus to be a stand-up comedian. Jesus is great in comedy. But he is crucified for telling a joke about Assyrians on a college campus.
After returning, Brian notices everyone in the family and out of the family is Jewish now.
A lot has changed in Quahog, and Brian is enjoying the change. However, as soon as he gets to know even Judaism would also mean some hard work, he decides to go back in time again to erase every religion known to humanity. Stewie does the job for him.
The world is peaceful without religion. However, God appears to thrash Brian and Stewie for wiping off religions. After God threatens the duo, they reluctantly restore the world as it was. The last scene shows us beaten-up Brian and Stewie singing a hymn in church.
The Episode Review
The latest episode of Family Guy features an interesting plot, however, it isn’t fun to watch for some reason. Perhaps it’s because the storyline lies on the edge with its bold commentary on religion that might not be for everybody.
The episode also lacks punchlines and story strength. If you’re not a die-hard Family Guy fan, you aren’t missing anything special by not watching this one. What are your thoughts on the episode? Let us know in the comments below:
