Falling For Christmas (2022) Movie Review – Is this all we can expect from Lindsay Lohan?

Is this all we can expect from Lindsay Lohan?

Going into this pre-Christmas movie, I was sure this was going to be a Hallmark-like production with a predictable plot and a meh ending… and boy does this movie deliver. A november 2022 release, Falling For Christmas is a Lindsay Lohan starrer, one of the many “Christmas Miracle” movies that will be sure to release as we head into the season.

The movie stars Lindsay as Sierra Belmont who is the literal personification of a ditsy damsel in distress. Sierra is dating an “influencer” called Tad and she is the rich heiress of one of the biggest chains of hotel resorts – The Belmont Summit Resort.

Sierra’s father, Mr Belmont, does not approve of Sierra’s relationship with Tad and hopes for her to call it quits with him but Tad has other things in mind when he decides to propose to her on the top of a cliff when it’s been snowing heavily.

Sierra accepts the proposal and they make it Instagram official before she accidentally falls off the cliff and is found by Jake Russell, the owner of a smaller hotel in Summit Springs town. To no one’s surprise, Sierra has lost her memory and has to live with Jake and his family made up of his daughter, Avy and the mother of his late wife. Sierra (who now goes by Sarah) has to aim and regain her memory while Jake is unsurprisingly falling in love with her.

Looks like Avy’s Christmas wish to see her father find love again could soon be coming true. The story of this Netflix original is not out of the blue and seems very typical to any other Christmas movies we are being presented with lately. The narrative is predictable and so is the end leaving very little to the imagination.

My question to the makers is that if Sierra is the heiress of one of the biggest hotel resorts in the vicinity, how is it that no one knows her? It is also insane how the hotel staff her father has left behind when he is out on a business trip, days before Christmas is oblivious of a missing heiress. Sierra is missing for four full days at the most and she still falls in love with Jake at that time and so does he.

The only thing that made the story interesting was Sierra falling off the cliff but the way that the plot was exposed was extremely poor. The falling was not a tragedy but a comedy of errors which is typical for a Christmas movie and is just as funny as my expectation of a logical plot from this movie.

Watching Lindsay Lohan make a comeback is really endearing but at the same time it would have been nice to see her in something more serious and organic than a mere Christmas flick. The Mean Girls callback with ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ was a fun nostalgic moment though, to be fair.

The other characters in the movie are just there and there is not much to say about the performances of the actors involved in this project. Setting the movie in the Christmas season makes it an easy fix as most of the narration is done indoors because of the snow.

Falling For Christmas tries to use the Christmas setting outdoors from time to time but it is nothing that viewers have not already seen before with movies like the Princess Switch series among others. The movie is a leisure watch for people who wish to kill time during the holiday season that is fast approaching. Word of advice though, if you are going into the movie expecting romance that will blow you off your feet, this is not the movie for you.
