Extended Family Season 1 Episode 6 Preview: Release Date, Time & Where To Watch

Extended Family Season 1 Episode 6

Jon Cryer and Abigail Spencer star in NBC’s new sitcom, Extended Family. The show’s title is indicative of the refreshing new concept that the creators are going for. From the description of the plot by the stars, it looks like Extended Family is a modern spin on “conscious decoupling,” which basically means two separated parents raising their kids. Although such offerings are far and in between these days, there is excitement among viewers about the show’s central pairing.

The show’s official plot reads: “Jim and Julia, after an amicable divorce, decide to continue to raise their kids at the family home while taking turns on who gets to stay with them. Navigating the waters of divorce and child-sharing gets more complicated for Jim when Trey, the owner of his favourite sports team, enters the picture and wins Julia’s heart.”

The four episodes till now have been unconvincing. Extended Family is struggling to find a voice that appeals to viewers. The jokes are flat, the format is dated, and the cast lacks chemistry. NBC will be watching the numbers like a hawk going forward to determine the future of the show.

Here is everything you need to know about Extended Family Season 1 Episode 6, including its release date, time, and where to watch this.

Where Can I Watch Extended Family?

Extended Family is an NBC exclusive. The new episodes will be available to watch on the cable network every week. Along with that, Peacock, which is NBC’s streaming platform, will also air the new episodes on Wednesday, a day after the original release. At this moment, we are not aware of other streaming options for readers outside the US and the UK. This can change going forward as NBC should plan a release for all its streaming partners.

Extended Family Season 1 Episode 6 Release Date

Extended Family Season 1 Episode 6 will be released on Tuesday, 30th January 2024, 8/7c on NBC, exclusively. Expect the runtime to be roughly 22 minutes, which is consistent with expectations around a cable sitcom. The episode will be available to stream with subtitles. There may be a slight change in the scheduling going forward, which we will apprise our readers of in the weekly previews.

For now, the series will stick to a Tuesday release every week until the season finale. The title of the new episode is “The Consequences of Status.” We currently do not have a tagline for this episode.

How Many Episodes Will Extended Family Have?

Extended Family Season 1 will consist of 13 episodes, NBC has confirmed. After Episode 6 has aired, we will have another 7 episodes to go in Season 1 that will be released on a weekly schedule. NBC might make weekly schedule changes for new episodes owing to the holiday season but we will keep you updated.

What happened in Episode 5?

Episode 5 of Extended Family focuses on Jim’s failed date night with Julia’s friend Lydia. When Jim calls Julia late at night to show her his “dermoid cyst,” she gets a message from Lydia on Facebook. Jim is advised to hack off the cyst using scissors, which is perhaps not the best decision. Regardless, Trey convinces Julia to find a way to stop these interrupting calls, unless it is a straight-up emergency with the kids.

However, Jim doesn’t realize what to say on his date and inadvertently pushes Lydia away by narrating his gory and disgusting story about the cyst. Lydia leaves and calls Julia, who then harangues Jim over the phone. Jim reports that a woman seated next to the table, Thea-Lynne, became interested in him, finding his story funny.

Jim brings her back to The Nest, while Julia drags Trey, first to the restaurant, and then to the house to investigate. Thea-Lynne is freaked out by Julia’s demeanour and closeness with Jim. She leaves the house and ends the courting, blaming Julia for making it weird. It is an important learning for the ex-wife, who is still so caring for her ex-husband.
