Eternal Strands Guide: How to Harvest the Ashpeak Drake
Across Eternal Strands, you’ll come across various giant bosses, coming in the form of Arkons or Great Beasts. Ashpeak Drake is a monstrous dragon that we first fought in the prologue during the unwinnable fight. It’s a towering boss that can do big flame damage and also hit quite hard too.
You’ll first encounter it in the Dredger’s Mire area, but after your first encounter, it can move to different locations. It’s also worth bearing in mind, that if this enemy shows up in Arkon’s Hearth, because of the tunnelled area, it’s extremely rare to find the enemy fly so for that reason, it’s advisable not to try and Harvest it here.
Furthermore, this boss is made a lot harder during Drought, and a lot easier during Frost, although do be aware that during Frost, if Ashpeak Drake drops onto a frozen area, it will damage it over time, and if you’re trying to Harvest, that’s not always the best option either.
Ashpeak Drake Weak Points
Ashpeak Drake deals both physical and fire attack, with the attacks coming in two different forms – on the ground and in the air. Whilst in the air, Ashpeak Drake will hit you with a jet of fire, and also spew bursts of fire in your direction too.
While in the air, hit with evasive moves, although you can equip the bow to do damage if you wish. Just be careful not to deplete its HP bar completely.
When it drops to the ground is your chance to strike. In order to Harvest Ashpeak Drake, there’s a very specific method you need to follow to come out on top.
First, attach to Ashpeak’s left or right wing and damage until it hardens. You’ll know it’s damaged to this point when it turns darker with blue ripples across. This prevents Ashpeak from doing evasive manoeuvres in the air and throwing you off when Harvesting. However, make sure you don’t damage both wings, as doing so will render Harvesting impossible, as Ashpeak Drake needs to be in the sky for its weak point to show.
At this point, it’s a good idea to hit Ashpeak Drake’s face with some Ice Wall. Not only will this make the horns brittle and easier to destroy, it’ll also stop the Ashpeak from using its evasive manoeuvres, which include trying to shake you off and a nasty mid-air barrel roll too. Furthermore, it can also hit a jet of fire in your direction too.
Harvesting Ashpeak Drake
When you’re ready, attach to Ashpeak’s face and hack at the horns until they fall. Doing this not only weakens Ashpeak’s attacks, but it also garners some rare resources too.
Once you’ve done that, make sure you have a good amount of stamina remaining. When Ashpeak Drake takes to the skies again, its Harvest point will show up on its scaly back. All you need to do is climb over and when prompted, hold triangle to come out successfully.
Successfully Harvesting the Ashpeak Drake will also allow you to gain the Drake’s Breath strand. Be sure to speak to Dahm when you get this to upgrade your powers.
