Eternal Strands Guide: How to Harvest Ark of the Living Flame
Across Eternal Strands, you’ll come across various giant bosses, coming in the form of Arkons or Great Beasts. Ark of the Living Flame is a towering Ark that moves slowly but can hit hard if you don’t have your wits about you. You’ll first encounter it in the Dynevron area, but after your first encounter, it can move to different areas on your map.
Living Flame is one of the fiddliest boss fights in Eternal Strands and requires you to destroy very specific points in order for its weak spot to show up.
There are two types of victories here, one coming from just straight-up killing these guys and the other (which is a lot more valuable and the purpose of this guide) stemming from defeating enemies in specific ways to “Harvest” their core power. Thankfully, we’ll take a lot of the guesswork out for you and help Harvest this guy!
This slow, lumbering enemy does do significant damage if it catches you, but the chances are you’ll be able to out-manoeuvre it without too many issues.
While attacking the enemy’s weak points, each limb will eventually Harden and become impregnable to attacks. Here, you’ll need to change to a different limb to inflict damage. However, as we’re harvesting, it doesn’t matter too much how much damage you’re doing, just be sure not to deplete that HP bar before you’re done!
Living Flame’s Weak Points
The key to defeating Living Flame is to render its flame attacks useless to use. This comes in the form of removing the parts of Living Flame that allow it to use these attacks.
For Living Flame, there are FIVE circular points that you need to destroy. Two are located on the back of the legs, one near the left elbow on the gauntlet, one on the chest and another on the top of its staff.
The staff is the hardest to destroy, so you can either use Weaver’s Grasp to throw debris and aim for the staff, or climb up to attack with a melee strike. Whenever you climb onto the Ark, it will try to shake you off. When prompted, be sure to hold Triangle to make sure you cling on. However, this will also drain stamina too. When your stamina is depleted you’ll drop back to the ground again.
On top of trying to shake you, this Arkon will also try to grab you. It can sometimes be a good evasive manoeuvre to press X and jump up to a higher area if you can when it tries to grab you as you’re climbing. If timed right, you’ll avoid the Arkon grabbing and doing damage by squeezing and throwing you on the ground.
The Arkon also has basic stamp and knee-drop attacks, but both of these have very obvious wind-ups so it should be easy to dodge.
If you end up fighting from a distance, do be mindful that Living Flame will throw debris at you, along with hitting with fireballs. You can throw these projectiles back, which can be handy to weaken the armour. Furthermore, Living Flame will summon little flame minions to follow you around. If you do hit them back and damage them, they can also explode and do big damage, so be mindful of that.
Harvesting Living Flame
Once you’ve removed all five weak points, a circular symbol will appear underneath Living Flame’s health bar. This will allow you to climb up and Harvest. Because the Arkon moves so slowly, this isn’t too much of an issue.
With the power extinguished, the flame atop its head will now be gone, so you just need to climb all the way up to the top, then hold triangle when prompted to Harvest.
Once you have harvested the Arkon, you’ll gain the Ember’s Servant strand, which can be exchanged with Dahm to upgrade your powers.
