Verity’s Journey

Welcome to Enigma of Fear! This neat little paranormal mystery game is quite the treat and it has a lot of mysteries, puzzles and secrets to uncover. The game isn’t completely forthcoming over where you need to go and how to solve the puzzles – so that’s where we come in!

The majority of the game is quite linear, and requires you to explore environments fully to uncover secrets and paths forward. Do note that later on Enigma of Fear opens up and allows you to visit numerous different locations in any order. However, these actually do need to be completed in a specific way so to maximize your time with this one, we’ll break all of that down when we get there.

This walkthrough won’t go into detail over every individual collectible, ammo drop and med-kit pick-up unless they’re close to your objective, because a lot of the fun with this game comes from exploring so we’ll stick to the barebones basics, including where to find puzzle-specific pick-ups in case you get stuck at any point.

For now though, lets get cracking!

Outside The Mansion

When you first start, highlight the three symbols around the sigil that have blood spatters next to them. This will start Mia’s journey.

When you gain control, head to the right. You can talk to both Agatha and Samuel if you want, along with petting your trusty canine, Lupi. When you’re ready, head north. At the split path, head left.

You can investigate the car if you wish, where you’ll find a driving licence for A. Verity. Take this as a good opportunity to get accustomed to rotating, flipping and examining collectibles, as these will all come in handy when you investigate later on down the line.

Keep going left and approach the fence. Switch to Lupi by pressing tab (Right Analog Stick) and interact with the fence. Crawl through, interact with the doors and head on through to the other side.

Switch to Mia and approach the mansion. Follow the path to the left, hugging the outside of the mansion until you find open cellar doors leading down. Go into the basement. Here, you’ll find a crowbar on the desk (in front of the green glowing sigil). Pick it up but keep your gun equipped.

Furthermore, there’s also a letter on the dressing table which holds details about the Enigma of Fear. Use your UV light with the flashback while interacting with it to see your first hidden clue.

Dotted around the areas from here onwards, you’ll find that a lot of the letters have invisible ink with clues or titbits of info on. It’s a good idea to make a regular habit of checking each document you pick up!

A bloodsucking zombie will appear soon after so make sure you shoot that when it arrives. It takes around 3-4 shots and you need to only hit it when there’s a red circle and an X above its head (pictured below).

With the zombies killed, equip the Crowbar and destroy the crates. Then, leave the basement and return to the front door of the mansion. Just to the left, you’ll find some wooden panels blocking the door you can destroy and head inside the mansion.

The Strach Mansion (Ground Floor)

Welcome to the Strach Mansion, where you’ll now be right in the midst of your first proper mystery. Before heading upstairs, be sure to check the downstairs area for goodies. When you’re done, head into the Altar Room (located directly left of the entrance) where you’ll find a note under the dresser. This helps to show an easier way of killing zombies.

If you sneak up behind zombies and hit the interact button, you can stun them, and then hit again to dispatch without wasting bullets. This is incredibly useful in tight situations when resources are low, and bloodsucking zombies are also blind too, so these guys won’t follow if you sneak off and return later on.

Stealth kill the zombie, and after reading the book on the Altar, head through the doorways until you reach the dining room. Your flashlight will fail at this point. Be sure to check the wall with your UV light for an unnerving message.

Head through the door south, take out the bloodsucking zombie, then into the room to the right. Here, you’ll find a Med-Kit on a crate and a large mechanism locking a door on the right.

You’ll also find a radio just to the left of the Med-Kit. Throughout your adventure, you’ll be able to tune in to the radio and speak to both Samuel and Agatha.

This is actually a neat way of gaining some hints over solving puzzles if you get stuck. You’re never told outright how to solve these puzzles, but the pair (especially Samuel) chime in with useful info over time over where you need to go or how certain clues can be solved.

The most important clue though is a schematic just to the left of the radio. Turn on your UV light and make note of what’s here.

There are three clues we need to gain from the mansion, and all three are found on the upper levels. The map actually tells us the exact locations we need to visit. They are:

  • The Hallway Outside Goliath’s room
  • Yuri’s Bedroom
  • Thiana’s Bedroom.

Strach Mansion 1F

Head upstairs and immediately sneak north. Take out the Blood Zombie and then turn back and prepare for a little jump scare. When the alarm goes off, run back down the stairs and wait for the zombie to leave. Stealth kill to preserve bullets and then we can properly explore without being distracted.

When you’re done, head back to the alarm clock and make a note of 4AM. This also ties into a note you’ll find on the other side of the hallway, further north (where the first Blood Zombie was). Turn on your UV light and you’ll find a hidden note.

Enter Yuri’s Bedroom and check everything in here. On her desk, you’ll notice that there are clues surrounding Thiana playing music at the same time every night when the alarm goes off.

Go back to the hallway and set off the alarm clock on the dresser. Enter Goliath’s bedroom (just to the left of this) and use your Crowbar to destroy the east wall. Switch to Lupi, head through, and approach the doors on the other side to move the chair and unlock.

As Mia, head inside the room and approach the record in the bottom right side.

Keep your UV light on and notice the vinyl ‘Memoria Timoris’. This is the same one on the song sheet the ghost is playing. There’s also a number 3. Remember this.

Next, head into the Master Bedroom (south of Goliath’s bedroom) and check the desk.

Check over every document and you’ll notice these relate to different symbols for a grandfather clock. A clock that just so happens to be in the hallway. Use your UV light on the note in the middle and you’ll find another clue coming in the form of symbols linked to ‘Hours’, ‘Minutes’ and ‘Seconds’.

With this knowledge, plus the 4am alarm and the song sheet listing 3, head over to the grandfather clock and make note of the two symbols on Numbers 3 (III) and 4 (IV) on the Clock

With all of this confirmed, head back to the Advanced Lock on the ground floor and input the following code:

  • Hexagon
  • Circle with sigils inside
  • Upside down triangle with a circle

You’ll also gain an achievement here too, Rise of the Unwanted One.

The Basement

Take out the Blood Zombies and proceed all the way down the hallway until you reach the door at the far end. This links back to the previous basement section. Open it up then return to the corridor and enter the door to the right (pictured below).

Enter the large chamber further in and take out the Blood Zombie.

Approach the letter on the ground and pick it up. Make note of the sigils circled. On the back is a secret door within the room that shows where your next objective is. The game should then automatically jump you back to the main menu. When it does, enter the new sigils to start Verity’s story.

Verity’s Journey

From your starting position, head back into the basement where you first found the Crowbar. Kill any Blood Zombies that show up with your sword and head into the room you found the letter originally.

Here, a short cutscene with Calisto will begin before you’re thrust properly into a boss fight!

Boss Fight – Callisto

Calisto can be tricky if you’re not used to the janky combat in this game yet. You can either try to aim and shoot him with a pistol or, if he’s dodging your moves, sprint around and wait for Callisto to launch his 3-hit sword combo .After the third hit, there’s a slight delay. Approach and hit him with your own sword as many times as you can.

I would suggest running in circles or at least in a semi-circle path around Callisto because if you stand and wait, he’ll get his gun out and shoot you.

After several hits, Callisto will then teleport and try to stealth kill you. Keep sprinting around and then hit him with the sword from behind when Callisto does his 3-hit sword combo.

Eventually, Callisto will teleport to the middle of the room and conjure up a whirlwind to attack. Simply sprint toward him and press Interact to stop him. However, you need to do this before the sigil underneath him turns completely red, so be quick!

After defeating him you’ll gain another achievement: He Will Be Back. Now, from the main menu, switch over to Mia and approach that hidden compartment in the wall (pictured below).

Use your Crowbar to enter the newly unveiled door and follow the path to the Underground.
