Emily in Paris — Season 4 Episode 10 Recap, Review & Ending Explained

“All Roads Lead To Rome”

The season finale i.e. episode 10 of Emily in Paris Season 4 starts with Emily telling Sylvie that it was out of place for her to come to Rome and ruin her personal trip with Marcello.

What happens on the way to Solitano?

Emily tells Sylvie that she was going to take her advise and keep her personal life separate from her professional life and decides to go to Solitano to meet Marcello. On her way there, Emily learns about Mindy’s breakup.

Mindy reveals that Nicholas had released the song she had recorded for JVMA and that she was also rejected from Eurovision. Shattered from what was happening to her, Mindy tells Emily that she needs some time away from Paris and takes the flight to Rome.

Does Marcello forgive Emily?

In Solitano, Emily runs into Marcello’s mother – Antonia who recognises her. She apologises to Marcello and explains how she was unaware of Sylvie’s trip to Rome. Sylvie meets an old friend who is a filmmaker.

The two chat and Sylvie mentions how she forgot about putting romance first and was too focussed on her work. She kisses him and decides to prioritise her personal life now that she’s in Rome, away from work.

Marcello forgives Emily and takes him to a family lunch which turns out to be an event with the entire village (i.e. Marcello’s entire family). He tells Emily how he lost his father when he was young and that his mother run their family business.

Antonia asks Emily not to post pictures of Solitano online as they were a private family who like to keep their business private. Emily talks to Marcello in private and brings up the fact that he was selling his cashmere brand to JVMA. Marcello states that selling the brand to JVMA would monetise their homegrown products.

Emily mentions how this could be risky for the brand and coaxes him into having a meeting with Agence Grateau. Antonia overhears the conversation but Marcello tells Emily that he could not take things further with her.

What happens with Mindy in Rome?

Mindy and Emily walk on the streets of Rome and the two discuss the ups and downs of their romantic lives. Emily’s words about the lives of Romans inspire Mindy to modify a song she was working on. Mindy asks Emily to record her song as she plays the piano on the street and performs her new original single. The song gathers a crowd who enjoy Mindy’s performance.

The next morning, Mindy learns that her video was viral on Instagram and she is asked to join the reality show – Chinese Popstar again, this time as a judge. Mindy leaves to go to Paris urgently.

Does Marcello agree to meet Agence Grateau?

Marcello calls Emily and agrees to meet Agence Grateau on the persistence of his mother – Antonia. Emily lies that Agence Grateau had an office in Rome and calls Sylvie who is in bed with the filmmaker.

Sylvie leaves bed and rushes to meet an old friend – Giorgio Barbieri. She asks to borrow his office for the meeting with Marcello’s family. In Paris, Luc asks Genevieve to book the flight tickets for him and Julien to visit Rome.

Does Marcello end things with Emily?

Once the two are in Rome, Agence Grateau sets up a temporary office where they meet Marcello and Antonia. During the meeting, Emily states that Agence Grateau will maintain the privacy that Marcello’s homegrown brand – Muratori has been maintaining for years while trying to turn it into a luxury brand in Paris.

Antonia is hesitant to try it out and agrees to collaborate with Agence Grateau for six months. Marcello is disappointed that Emily only wanted to strike a deal with his company and leaves.

Does Gabriel secure the Michelin star?

Meanwhile, in Paris, Genevieve tells Gabriel that he was finally going to get a Michelin star. He is shocked to learn that Emily is in Rome with her boyfriend.

Genevieve suggests that they celebrate the night despite Emilys absence. Alfie and Antoine celebrate Gabriel’s success. Gabriel shares that he misses Emily but a drunk Genevieve starts throwing herself at him.

Gabriel asks to talk to Genevieve in private and asks her to respect his boundaries. He calls Emily and leaves a voicemail to her about the Michelin star.

Do Marcello and Emily end up together?

In Rome, Sylvie thanks Emily for her contribution in the success of Agence Grateau. Emily thinks that she lost a chance at love when she does not see Marcello at the party but is glad when he finally shows up.

Emily tells Marcello that she did not want to pursue a business relationship with him. Marcello decides to spend his last night with Emily in Rome.

Laurent learns that Sylvie is in Rome and asks her to hurry back home now that he had returned to Paris. However, she spots her filmmaker fling in the party and tells Laurent that she will take some time before returning. The next morning, Emily tells Sylvie, Luc and Julien that Gabriel had finally secured a Michelin star.

How does Emily in Paris Season 4 end?

Sylvie shares that Agence Grateau was opening a branch in Rome. Luc and Julien offer to handle the new firm but Sylvie tells Emily that she wanted her to take over the Roman branch of Agence Grateau.

Emily is shocked and tells Mindy that she was moving to Rome. Mindy tells Emily that she was leaving for Shanghai and would be visiting Emily in Rome once she is back.

Mindy runs into Gabriel, Antoine and Alfie and shares the news about Emily’s move to Rome. This leaves Gabriel shocked when Alfie asks Gabriel to put his ego aside and go talk to Emily. Alfie’s adivce sticks with Gabriel and he decides to talk to Emily. However, he gets a voicemail from Emily who congratulates him in French.

In Rome, Emily loves her new apartment in Rome and takes a photo of her to post onto her Instagram account. She changes her account name to EmilyInRome. The episode ends with Gabriel asking for Emily’s apartment address in Rome while Marcello picks Emily up to take her on a drive.

The Episode Review

While we can see that there will be another season of Emily in Paris, given how the show ends in this season, I am worried that it is stuck on the same loop with Emily juggling between Gabriel and a new boy from a new country.

As great as Marcello and Emily’s chemistry has been over the last 5 episodes, he seems like an unpredictable character – moreso than Emily herself. 

The fact that it took Alfie’s advice to make Gabriel see his own feelings for Emily is appalling to me. I like how he pushed Genevieve away respectfully but I wish Gabriel would have done this sooner.

All the viewers of the show know that Emily and Gabriel are end game and I wish the makers would stop making viewers pine over the couple and just get them to end up together.

I am so happy for the new avenues in Mindy’s career that she will will probably explore in the season to come and we can hope to see her getting back with Benoît.

Meanwhile, there is a chance that Sylvie and Antoine will end up separating considering the plight of their relationship. We will see more of Emily in Rome in Season 5 which leaves me wondering if the show will change it’s title for the upcoming season!
