“Last Christmas”
Episode 6 of Emily in Paris Season 4 starts with Sylvie celebrating the upcoming Christmas holidays with her employees. She asks Emily to stop focusing on work and enjoy herself on her trip back home. Emily meets Gabriel and the two chat about Emily’s upcoming trip to Chicago and how Gabriel cannot leave the restaurant to accompany her.
Emily asks Gabriel to have fun with Camille’s family now that they are going to have a child together. Gabriel tells Emily that she is just as big a part of his family as Camille and the baby. That night, Mindy states that she does not want to spend the holidays with Nicolas’ family and would rather be listening to Benoît sing. Emily teases Mindy about her confusing relationship with Nicholas and Benoît.
The next day, Emily is shocked when she learns that Sylvie has upgraded her ticket to Business Class. Emily calls Sylvie to thank her for the upgrade and enjoys the luxuries of the Business Lounge. To her dismay, the flight to Chicago is cancelled and Emily is shocked to learn that the next flight out would be leaving once the weather gets better.
At the same time, Gabriel takes extra care of Camille who has not told him the truth about her false positive pregnancy test. Camille asks to have dinner with Gabriel that evening and he agrees. Camille’s mother tells her how glad she is about Gabriel spending the holidays with her. She asks Camille to pursue Gabriel now that Emily is away over the holidays.
Just then, Gabriel gets a call from Emily. Gabriel offers to go to Paris to spend the holidays with Emily but Camille’s father invites Emily over to their house in France. On the other hand, Sylvie tells her mother – Heloise that she is cooking a meal for Laurent’s daughter who is going to spend the holidays with them. Heloise warns Sylvie and asks her to be careful about the girl.
At the same time, Emily arrives in France and greets Camille’s parents and his brother – Timothée. Timothée apologises to Emily about the video he made about her. Laurent tells Sylvie that his daughter – Genevieve is going to work in Paris soon. Sylvie ends up burning the turkey she had cooked and takes Laurent and Genevieve out to dinner.
At the table, Camille’s family discuss the French holiday traditions and Emily goes upstairs to talk to her parents. Gabriel asks Camille to talk to him about her concerns but she refuses to do so. She appears to be upset about Emily’s arrival at her house but does not mention it to Gabriel. Gabriel offers to take Emily on a walk and asks Camille if she would like to join them but the latter refuses.
On the other hand, Sylvie learns that Genevieve has applied to intern at a fashion editor – Carine Riotfeld’s office. Sylvie tells Genevieve that she knows Carine and can put in a good word of recommendation for Genevieve.
The next morning, Sylvie wakes up to see that Genevieve had wreaked havoc in her house. She tells Laurent that she will try to manipulate Carine into hiring Genevieve. The plan fails and Carine refuses to hire Genevieve. Meanwhile, Timothée chats with Emily about Gabriel prioritising Camille over her.
Gabriel and Camille ask Emily to go skiing with them. He leaves Emily behind and follows Camille, worried about her baby. Emily struggles to ski by herself but fails and falls. Just then, an Italian man – Marcello saves Emily and helps her ski to the bottom of the mountain. Emily thanks Marcello and finds Gabriel.
Emily lashes out at Gabriel for putting her on the back burner all the time. She tells Gabriel that she is tired of him treating her like a mistress while he puts Camille and the baby first. Emily leaves to go back to Paris, seemingly ending things with Gabriel. Genevieve offers a gift to Sylvie as a thank-you present.
Sylvie feels guilty about Carine refusing to hire Genevieve and offers her a job at Agence Grateau. Laurent is touched by the gesture and thanks her. In Paris, Julien brings his new fling to Mindy’s party. Benoît flirts with Mindy and she is confused about her feelings all over again as the two sing a Christmas duet together.
That night, Camille’s mother forces her to talk to Gabriel who is upset about Emily leaving. Camille decides to talk to Gabriel about the pregnancy. At the same time, Emily arrives in Paris and meets Alfie. She tells Alfie that she has broken up with Gabriel and can finally see how she never stands a chance with him.
Alfie talks to Emily about his feelings and reveals that he was going to meet his girlfriend’s family which leaves her bummed. She tells Alfie that she is happy for him and breaks into tears as the episode comes to an end with Emily watching Alfie leave.
The Episode Review
This episode proves that the chaos just never ends for Emily and we are back to square one as Emily breaks up with Gabriel all over again. I wish Camille would have told Gabriel about her pregnancy sooner which could have left Emily a chance at a normal relationship with Gabriel.
While I am sure Gabriel and Emily are endgame, it feels terrible to see Emily consider Alfie as an option. She breaks down into tears after realising that Alfie has moved on while she had the chance to pick him over Gabriel who had always been putting Camille and the baby first.
Moreover, it is clear that Mindy has feelings for Benoît and we can expect them to get back together soon. I am worried that the girl Alfie is dating is Genevieve. Genevieve also seems like a troublemaker who can cause a lot of chaos in the lives of Sylvie, Laurent as well as the rest of the staff at Agence Grateau.
