Emily in Paris – Season 4 Episode 1 “Break Point” Recap & Review

Break Point

Episode 1 of Emily in Paris Season 4 starts with Emily and Mindy watching a TikTok video posted by Camille’s brother where he calls her a home wrecker. Mindy suggests that since Camille is in love with Sofia, she should try confessing her feelings for Gabriel.

Emily does not wish to hamper Gabriel and Camille’s relationship and decides against it. She decides to focus on her job and goes back to her apartment to leave for work. There, she finds Gabriel struggling to open the door to his apartment due to his injured hand. She helps him with the apartment door and makes him breakfast.

The two chat about how things ended for Gabriel and Camille as well as Emily and Alfie. Emily states that Alfie was not his problem to deal with, respectfully asking him to focus on his relationship with Camille who is pregnant with his child. Just then, Emily gets a text from Sylvie about the TikTok video and she rushes to work.

At work, Sylvie tells Emily to join Luc and Julien in a work meeting. There, Emily learns that Julien had designed a campaign called “Love in the Air” with where Emily and Alfie in the centre after the success of their hot air balloon video.

Emily is further shocked to discover that Julien wanted her and Alfie to make a public appearance when the campaign is launched at The French Open (Roland-Garros) tournament.

Emily suggests that they do something similar to a “Kiss Cam” and asks the tournament attendee couples to kiss on camera instead. George agrees and suggests that Emily and Alfie also kiss on camera along with all the other couples. Julien is shocked to learn that Alfie and Emily have broken up.

Emily tells Luc, Julien and Sylvie that she is not in touch with Alfie anymore. Sylvie asks Emily to sort the issue and leaves for a meeting with Antoine. There, she learns that Antoine has launched a new unisex perfume called Crystal Heart. He also mentions his divorce with Catherine and explains that he has a lot riding on the sale of the perfume.

Alfie joins them and Sylvie mentions the “Love in the Air” campaign. She tells Alfie that since he had used their client to build his romantic relationship with Emily, he needed to keep the client in mind now that their relationship had ended. Mindy and her bandmates – Etienne and Benoit meet an agent to register for the Eurovision Song Contest.

The trio learn that they need a huge sum of money to spend on their band to be eligible for the contest. Etienne suggests that Mindy ask her rich boyfriend – Nicolas to help them out but she refuses.

Later that day, Alfie calls Emily and asks her to take down the photos of them which had been put up as part of the campaign. Emily shows up at the gym that Alfie is at and tries to talk to him. Emily tells Alfie that he is very important to her but the latter asks her to give him some time to process his past relationship with Gabriel.

That night, Sylvie and Laurent are on a date and the latter asks Sylvie to meet Louis (Nicolas’ father). Laurent claims that Louis had agreed to invest in his yacht club idea and asks his wife to support him this time. Meanwhile, Emily and Mindy discuss the upcoming French Open that they were both going to attend with Alfie and Nicolas respectively.

At the same time, Alfie meets Gabriel at his restaurant. The two have a heated chat about Emily. Gabriel confesses that he still has feelings for Emily but adds that they are only one-sided from his end. The next day, Mindy shows up at the French Open dressed in the outfit Nicolas had picked for her.

Louis is impressed with him and asks Mindy to join them for their family photos. Meanwhile, Emily lies to George that Alfie is stuck in traffic but confesses to Julien that she is not sure if he will be coming to the event.

Mindy overhears Louis talking to Nicolas about the revealing outfit she was dressed in the last time they met. Nicolas tries to explain himself but Mindy is angry. She explains how the outfits she wears are her choice and adds that she will continue to wear them as she pleases.

Meanwhile, Julien tells Sylvie that Louis’ company has offered him a job. Sylvie concludes that Louis was doing this to punish her which upsets Julien. He tells Sylvie that he is going to take up the new job with Louis and quits working with her.

During halftime, the ad starts playing but Alfie still does not show up. Emily panics and so does George. Alfie shows up in the last 30 seconds of the advertisement. He tells Emily how he was always afraid of being abandoned by her and decides to end their relationship on a high note.

Alfie promises to be a friend to Emily always and the two share a last kiss which is recorded on the kiss cam for the campaign. At his restaurant, Gabriel sees the kiss between Alfie and Emily and is shattered. Meanwhile, Alfie tells Antoine that he had broken up with Emily and the kiss they shared was one of heartbreak.

This inspires Antoine to name his new perfume “Heartbreak” and he updates Sylvie about it. Mindy sells the dress Nicolas had asked her to wear to the event and makes about 3000 Euros to support her band.

That night, Sylvie gets a call from a journalist who asks her to share her experience working with Louis. She was writing an article about the questionable relationship Louis shares with his female employees.

Emily gets back home late that night and learns from Gabriel that Camille has been missing since the night of their supposed wedding as the episode comes to an end.

The Episode Review

While Emily still finds herself in tricky situations, Mindy is boss queen just as expected of her. I would also sell off any branded goods my rich boyfriend sends me to make money. The gift sent by Nicolas was not out of his love for Mindy but because he wanted her to look presentable in front of Louis who is a total scumbag still.

On the other hand, I am not shocked by Emily and Alfie’s break up because I see Emily and Gabriel ending up together this season.

The couple is endgame and have feelings for each other but for the sake of the plot, we will have to go through another 9 episodes of confusion for the two to finally end up together in Season 4 (if there even is a fifth season after this).

For now, I am excited to see the chaos in Emily’s life with Camille having gone missing.
