Episode 6
Episode 6 of Echoes of the Past begins with a flashback to Sawsan and her boyfriend. She is furious with Nadia and her threats. He calls her out for being controlling and tells her to leave Ali and Nadia alone if they actually love each other. Annoyed, she goes back to Yassin and pretends to reconcile with him. She tells him to deal with Nadia as she cannot marry Ali or have his child.
At present, Yehia tries to distance himself from Layla as he doesn’t want to be waylaid from his goal. He recalls how he sold himself by taking Yassin’s money and regrets it. Layla tries to comfort him when she gets a call from Mona who wants to see her immediately. Yehia looks troubled by this update.
Mona is on good terms with Ali and Sawsan but refuses to stay at home. However, Ali looks shocked when she reveals that Yassin knew about Nadia’s pregnancy.
Mona meets with Layla and reveals she came back because she was worried about her. She knows she has been working with Yehia and tells her to stop. Layla explains her reasoning but Mona claims the truth may be worse than the missing memories. However, she will tell the truth if Layla leaves with her. Layla agrees and Mona reveals that Yassin is the killer. Layla is shocked and tries to call Yehia but he doesn’t answer.
Fatla informs Maldini and meets with Yehia. He was angry on Maldini’s behalf since he practically raised him. However, he also cares about Yehia and a flashback shows him protecting Yehia in prison. Maldini is eavesdropping and looks sad.
Meanwhile, Ali makes his offer to Michael and then calls Sherif. He wants them to be partners but Sherif refuses as he wants to find himself. Unfortunately for Ali, Yassin finds out and makes a better offer to Michael who takes it up. He also believes Ali is helping Yehia because of the barricade fiasco. He not only fires him but kicks him out of the house.
As for Mona, she picks up Layla’s phone right when Yehia texts her a photo of the blade. He then sends her a voice message as he believes Mona must be the killer. She doesn’t have time to consider the message as Yassin shows up. He simply wants to see his daughter and is surprised when she is cold to him.
Frustrated with his duplicity, she explains why she hates him – no man ever understood her except Yehia. They loved each other and Yassin took that away. And she realises that he didn’t do it to keep Yehia away from her, he didn’t even see her or know that he hurt her in the first place.
Back home, as Layla packs her bag, Ali asks about the barricade. She corroborates that she was with Yehia to learn the truth. He wants to know as well and tears up when she shares their dad is the killer.
At the same time, Yehia tracks down Mona and attacks her, believing she is the killer. He tries to choke her but he cannot. She insists that she didn’t kill Nadia and he realises that she knows who did.
At that moment, Khaled shows up at the hotel. Turns out, Maldini gave Khaled the wrong meeting spot since he couldn’t betray Fatla. Furious, Khaled tortured him till he revealed everything. Ashamed, Maldini warns Fatla who is waiting outside.
He alerts Yehia and stabs Khaled with a knife. Yehia jumps into the fray and a fight ensues. A sprinkler goes off and guests start running by. At the end of Echoes of the Past Episode 6, Khaled shoots Fatla and runs. Yehia screams for Fatla but disappears as security shows up.
The Episode Review
Echoes of the Past Episode 6 finally reveals the killer but do we trust Mona’s word? The Netflix show is finally keeping us on our toes and we are inclined to believe that it is not as straightforward as it seems. Especially since we have 2 more episodes left.
But if Yassin is indeed the killer, the question it begs is why did he kill Nadia if he didn’t care about the engagement or the pregnancy. Does he really fall for Sawsan’s schemes? But well, that just makes Sawsan the true mastermind behind all the drama that has unfolded.
The Fatla plot twist is also pretty sad. However, it proves that the writers can come through when necessary. Who knew we’d become invested in this particular side character and wish he had survived? But if all the excitement is exhausted in this episode, what does remain for the penultimate episode? That is what intrigues us rather than the unravelling of the mystery at this point.
