‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ Movie Preview: Release Date, Trailer & Where To Watch

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Based on the tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, this upcoming fantasy action-adventure movie follows the Forgotten Realms campaign setting of the game and focuses on a charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers who embark on an epic quest to retrieve a lost relic.

This isn’t the first movie to be based on the legendary board game. In 2000, another movie was released – the aptly named Dungeons & Dragons, which starred Jeremy Irons and Thora Birch – but that movie was critically mauled and it bombed upon release. Two other movies followed, both of which went straight to DVD, and they were even worse than the first one.

This new movie isn’t connected to those misfiring flops so will hopefully be better than all of them. As it draws heavily on the game, with a vast array of spells that will be familiar to role players, and creatures from its Monster Manual, including an owlbear (a bear with the head of an owl), this should be a satisfying watch for fans of the game and fantasy movie buffs alike.

When will Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves be released?

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 31st March 2023.

Who stars in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves?

Chris Pine, best known for his roles in Star Trek and Wonder Woman, plays Elgin the Bard in this new movie. Joining him in the cast is Michelle Rodriguez as a barbarian character called Holga, Justice Smith as a sorcerer named Simon, and Hugh Grant as the villainous Forge Fletcher.

Other cast members include:

Sophia Lillis as Doric
Regé-Jean Page as Xenk the Paladin
Daisy William as Red Wizard of Thay
Nicholas Blane as Chancellor Anderton

Who is the director of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves?

There’s not one director but two – John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. The two previously directed Vacation and Game Night and they worked on the screenplays for Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

As a child actor on the brilliant (but sadly short-lived) series Freaks and Geeks, Daley played a character who was obsessed with D&D. The actor fell in love with the game for real after playing it with his cast mates and because of this, we think the movie is in very safe hands.
