Dungeon People – Season 1 Episode 6 Recap & Review

Exploring and Cooking

Episode 6 of Dungeon People begins with Belle and Clay visiting a dining area at the Antomurg Dungeon. Belle wonders why Clay isn’t eating the vegetables that were prepared for her. Clay says she’s grown accustomed to surviving off meat and drinking water while exploring dungeons.

Regardless, Clay heads to the nearby pot and starts preparing the vegetables. Then, Clay returns to her seat and chats with Belle about her cooking procedures. Then, we enter a flashback. In it, Brance tells Clay why cooking is an important skill. Brance says if Clay can’t cook well enough, she should consider professional help.

Clay shares more details about her cooking techniques with Belle. She argues amateurs shouldn’t mess with cooking. Rangard enters the room. He argues Clay has terrible cooking knowledge. Rangard tells Belle he’s here to collect water. Belle tells Clay Rangard wants alcohol but refers to that beverage as water.

She explains different products Rangard associates with specific words. Clay looks at her vegetable soup, realizes it’s done, and asks Rangard and Belle to try it. Rangard and Belle don’t like the dish. Clay says she doesn’t like it either. However, Clay argues if it’s edible then she’s okay with it.

Rangard suggests Clay seek professional help. Then, Furin arrives. Furin plans to teach Belle and Clay how to fry vegetables and flavor their vegetables with salt. After that, Furin leaves to find more ingredients. Belle and Clay discuss what Furin taught them. Then, Furin arrives with dragon meat.

Belle tells Furin the dragon meat was a precious gift. Furin isn’t sure she should cook it. Clay wants to cook it in her steed but Furin revokes her statement and says she’ll cook it instead. Furin cooks the dragon meat and Belle and Clay love the meal Furin made.

Belle rewards Furin with dragon meat later. Furin thanks Belle for the gift. She knows Renfringe will appreciate it too since he’s an exceptional cook. Later, Clay reflects on her experiences with Furin and Reilmond. This makes Clay question the preconceived notions she had about cooking and fighting.

Then, Clay visits Rangard. Rangard shows Clay the daggers he fixed up for her. Clay rambles about her dagger skills and practices. Then, Clay thanks Rangard for fixing the daggers for her. Rangard shows Clay an armor piece he made for her. After that, we learn Clay isn’t a big fan of women’s armor that shows skin.

Rangard confirms Belle’s master encouraged him to make slightly erotic women’s armor. Rangard blames himself for there being less erotic women’s armor to find in the dungeon. He wants Clay to accept this armor set as an apology. Clay understands but refuses because she doesn’t like receiving preferential treatment.

Nonetheless, Rangard encourages Clay to accept the gift. Clay tries on the woman’s armor Rangard made for her. Clay runs around, thanks Rangard for the gift again, and returns to the Antomurg Dungeon’s control room. There, Belle greets Clay. Belle loves Clay’s new armor piece and says it suits her.

Clay asks Belle if she can explore the dungeon since today’s her day off. She reminds Belle of one of their agreement’s clauses. Belle understands and allows Clay to explore the dungeon. However, Belle and Clay set a new punishment that could prohibit Clay from future dungeon exploration endeavors.

After that’s settled, Clay explores the dungeon. Rangard and a golem lead Clay to the dungeon. Clay tells the two that Belle gave her a return scroll so she should be fine. Clay walks around the dungeon’s ninth floor. She visits a new area and encounters a fire monster.

She fights the fire monster. Clay defeats the fire monster but no gem appears after she defeats it. A new area opens up and Clay heads inside. She spots a treasure chest and uses a key she has on hand to open it. Before Clay opens it, she reflects on what types of treasure chests lurk in the Antomurg Dungeon.

Clay also discusses the types of traps one can find in the treasure chests. She looks inside and finds a worthless sword and arm gauntlet-like object. Clay leaves the area. She tells the audience she’s looking for a special dagger. Clay senses spirit monsters nearby and defeats them.

She realizes her previous battles helped her develop a deeper understanding of magical power. Then, we receive a montage of Clay defeating more monsters. After that, Clay tires out. Clay argues it’s difficult for her to maintain stamina while using magical power in combat. She says it’ll be a while until she can handle it naturally.

Clay uses the return scroll to return to the control room. Belle greets Clay. The episode ends with Clay greeting Belle.

The Episode Review

This was a pretty lax episode of Dungeon People, action and lore-wise. It evokes similar energy to the cute “moe’ endeavors one would expect from anime like K-On or Laid-Back Camp. It features Clay learning how to cook proper meals and gives action junkies tame fights between Clay and several beasts.

The beasts were intriguing. Dungeon People continues building upon the Antomurg Dungeon’s ecosystem from fire to plant monsters. I’m excited to see what other bizarre critters frequent this location since we have a couple of chapters to go before Season 1 wraps up.

Additionally, it’s nice seeing supporting characters like Furin serve prominent roles. While it’s a bummer we didn’t get to peer into Furin’s past experiences before or after she met Renfringe, fans will appreciate Furin for helping Clay and Belle improve their cooking skills.

Moreover, this episode gave us more intel on what Belle’s master was like. The previous episodes did so to a better extent, but this one gives fans an idea of her master’s casual (or erotic) side.

It’s strange Belle seemingly didn’t confront her master about this “women’s armor” fiasco though. You’d think she would considering how she responded to one of the goblin’s crude baby-making comments from weeks ago. But all in all, this was a fine showcase from Dungeon People this week.
