Do the King and Queen visit Downton?
The 2019 Downton Abbey film picks up two years after the events of season 6. The residents at Downton are buoyed by excitement when they receive a letter from the King and Queen. They are coming to visit Downton Abbey for one night, and will be staying with the Crawleys.
Is Lord Grantham Lady Bagshaw’s heir?
It turns out that the Crawleys are more closely connected to the royal family than we thought. Queen Mary’s royal attendant, Lady Bagshaw, is Lord Grantham’s cousin. Robert is her closest male relative. As such, Violet expects him to inherit from Bagshaw. But the lady has no intention of making Robert her heir.
What do the Downton servants do to the royal servants?
All of Downton’s servants want to make a good impression on the King and Queen. They so want to serve the royal family that they plan several ways to incapacitate the royal servants. They even drug the chef. This way, they can cook and serve for the King and Queen.
Is Edith pregnant?
The King asks Edith’s husband Bertie to do a months-long tour with the prince. Bertie, of course, accepts. However, he later learns that Edith is expecting their first baby. Now, he doesn’t know how to renege on his offer to go on the tour.
Cora gets things done by talking to the queen, however, and Bertie is able to stay with Edith throughout her pregnancy.
Why does Carson replace Thomas?
Thomas has now been Downton’s head butler for two years. Mary, however, doesn’t trust his capabilities to head preparations for the royal family. She asks Carson to return and temporarily serve as head butler again.
Thomas is affronted. He decides to leave it all to Carson and instead goes to town. He goes to a gay club with one of the royal servants. When the police raid the club and arrest Thomas, the servant bails him out. Thomas is grateful, and his new friend responds by kissing him.
Does Tom Branson save the king?
The Crawleys worry that Tom will make an unfavorable impression on the monarchs due to his political leanings. In a striking turn of events, however, Tom saves the King from an assassination attempt.
Does Tom fall for Lucy?
Tom forms an instant connection with Lucy, Lady Bagshaw’s maid. Violet worries that Lucy has designs on Tom simply to rise out of her low station. But she’s shocked to find out that Lucy is Lady Bagshaw’s daughter. She’s the one Lady Bagshaw plans on making her heir. With this knowledge, Violet suddenly likes the idea of Tom and Lucy together.
The two become close during Lucy’s short stay at Downton, and Tom asks that they keep in touch after she leaves.
How does Downton Abbey: The Movie end?
The film ends with a shocking confession from Lady Violet to Lady Mary. The Dowager Countess received a bad prognosis and doesn’t have much time left in her life. She tells Mary that it is up to her to carry on her legacy and preserve Downton.
