Dong Jae, the Good or the Bastard – K-drama Episode 9 Recap & Review

Episode 9

Episode 9 of Dong Jae: The Good or the Bastard begins during Nam Gyeo-re’s court proceedings. Nam Gyeo-re’s counsel pleads not guilty, suggesting that Yoo-ri had been responsible for making Gyeo-re take the drugs found in the men’s washroom. Park Chan-hyeok is called as a witness, and Dong-jae encourages him to tell the truth in order to be truly free and put Nam Wan-sung behind bars.

The scene then cuts to Dong-jae, who is posing as a construction worker at Ehong’s construction site in order to locate the buried bodies. After days of work, Dong-jae finally comes across a newly cemented area and deduces that this is where the bodies are buried. Later, it’s announced that the next day will be a holiday for safety checks, and Dong-jae realizes that Wan-sung is making his move. He informs prosecutor Ji-hee.

Meanwhile, Wan-sung receives information from Mi-ran that her team is looking for bodies at his construction site. Rather than risk relocating the bodies, he decides to grind them instead.

That night, Dong-jae and Byung-gun are on watch at the construction site while Ji-hee camps outside Nam Wan-sung’s house. Dong-jae and Byung-gun realize that Wan-sung intends to grind the bodies, so they call the police, but not before they are discovered. Thankfully, Byung-gun avoids getting hurt when the the police captain arrives at the scene, and the culprits are successfully apprehended! Ji-hee simultaneously arrests Wan-sung.

The Episode Review

The show centers more on Dong-jae’s redemption arc, highlighting how a once-corrupt prosecutor attempts to turn his life around. As a result, it leans less into intricate crime drama and more into a story that matches Dong-jae’s offbeat personality.

Even in dangerous situations, Dong-jae and Byung-gun remain as absurd as ever! It’s clear this show is more black comedy than crime drama, especially when these two are fighting over hot packs in the middle of an undercover operation.

With Wan-sung’s arrest, the plot is beginning to wrap up. However, there’s still much left to prove about his role in the various schemes and murders, keeping the stakes high for the next episode.
