Dong Jae, the Good or the Bastard – K-drama Episode 10 Recap, Review & Ending Explained

Episode 10

Episode 10 of Dong Jae: The Good or the Bastard begins with Nam Wan-sung’s court proceedings, where he pleads not guilty. Meanwhile, all the thugs working for Wan-sung are successfully arrested and testify that they were merely following his orders.

Wan-sung, however, feigns ignorance of the murders at his construction site, claiming he always tried to settle matters with money and that his men acted independently. Chan-hyeok testifies against Wan-sung, recounting how he was tortured to ensure Nam Gyeo-re won his drug case.

Later, Wan-sung’s counsel calls Seo Dong-jae as a witness, implying that he worked undercover at the construction site for revenge. This is quickly dismissed by Ji-hee, who tells the judges she enlisted Dong-jae’s help as a fellow prosecutor for her case.

Then, a recording plays of Wan-sung instructing Gyeo-re to delete dashcam footage from the day of his arrest. The prosecution uncovered this when they found the footage deleted, deducing Gyeo-re had done so on Wan-sung’s orders. Realizing he’s been exposed, Wan-sung loses his temper, revealing his true personality before being dragged away by the police.

Later, Mi-ran exposes Wan-sung’s slush fund details to Kim Ji-hee as revenge for his blackmailing. Meanwhile, Dong-jae awaits news of his disciplinary action and finds that he’s dismissed. However, he’s instructed to report somewhere after two months. Byung-gun is promoted to the Supreme Office.

Two months later, the former prosecutor chief, Dong-jae’s mentor, leaves his law firm to create a team of morally ambiguous enforcers, including Dong-jae, to root out corrupt officials. Dong-jae’s first target is Mi-ran, who gets suspended due to her ties to Wan-sung.

Dong-jae humorously warns Byung-gun that he’ll be coming for him next. Ji-hee steps into the vacant position after Mi-ran’s departure. Gyeo-re admits to his crimes, while Wan-sung is sent to prison, where he amusingly shares a cell with Kyeong-hak, the serial killer from the beginning of the series.

The Episode Review

Dong Jae: The Good or the Bastard ends on a fitting note with Dong-jae’s new role in the prosecution inspection team, using his morally gray stance to root out corruption that’s been part of the system since the show’s predecessor, Stranger.

What’s great is that Dong-jae’s persona remains intact; he’s still as morally ambiguous as ever, now pursuing a personal vendetta under the guise of justice.

The case against Nam Wan-sung was relatively straightforward, with fewer Stranger-style plot twists since the show focused on Dong-jae’s journey toward taking responsibility for his past misdeeds. The finale is satisfying, resolving all major conflicts and ending the season on a high note.
