DNA Lover – K-drama Episode 6 Recap & Review

Crosstalk

DNA Lover Episode 6 picks up where we left off with So-jin meeting Gang-hun at the Han River and Yeon-u meeting Mi-eun at the tower. Gang-hun finds it outrageous that So-jin is mad at him for showing up. He was minding his business, going on a late-night run, and didn’t expect to see her. Still, he manages to save an old lady from being hit with a scooter and So-jin gives him first aid.

Meanwhile, Mi-eun finds it cute yet strange that Yeon-u was trying to telepathically communicate with So-jin. He later stops near a restaurant near So-jin’s place and tries to make it look like he misheard one of the spots they were supposed to meet. A-ri sees him taking a picture.

He tries to send it to So-jin but fails due to network issues. Later, Yeon-u joins his mom and aunt for dinner. His mom still has hopes that her husband will stop cheating and return to her.

The next day, Jung-tam starts his telepathy experiment with Sumg-mi. He tries to telepathically communicate how much he wants to see her. He is convinced it is working since Sung-mi keeps showing up before him. He also runs into Gang-hun and talks about how Yeon-u is trying hard to win So-jin’s heart. This causes Gang-hun to worry more. At the same time, Gang-hun also keeps running into Mi-eun.

Elsewhere, Sojin tries to figure out why Yeon-u never made it to Han River. She figures that there must be a mistake, a crosstalk of sorts. She wonders who Yeon-u met at the tower and whether he misheard one of the spots. She calls him to talk, and he tries to invite her to try again.

However, So-jin says she is busy even on Saturday. Before they can settle on a date, So-jin gets a call from her boss and hangs up. Yeon-u grows frustrated as he was looking forward to seeing her.

Later that night, A-ri buys two potato skewers and, after some contemplation, she decides to visit the church and give one to Father Andrea. However, she is scared after seeing her speak to someone on the rooftop. Father Andrea seems to be urging someone to repent, but we don’t know who he is talking to. She heads home and tells So-jin about her attraction to Father Andrea.

On the other hand, Mi-eun has a bad experience with an old acquaintance about her polyamorous lifestyle. Yeon-u, who also happens to be there, comes to her help. They share some drinks and talk about how they broke up. It turns out Mi-eun ghosted Yeon-u for six months. She asks if he was okay dating her and he says he liked it because their relationship had the perfect distance. He encourages her to continue being herself regardless of the backlash.

Yeon-u calls So-jin about a celestial show happening on Sunday and invites her. She likes stargazing and immediately accepts. In their excitement, they start planning the things they will need while camping. So-jin calls Gang-hun to ask him a favour and mentions she is going camping with Yeon-u to see the celestial show. Gang-hun is surprised, especially since Sung-mi had mentioned how some glamping places feel like a hotel.

He rushes to the camping site and messes with Yeon-u and So-jin’s private time. The two men keep acting so childish, annoying So-jin. At the same time, Mi-eun sees Gang-hun and tries to follow him but gets lost. Gang-hun gets a call to head back to work and be on standby, and he begrudgingly leaves. He tells Yeon-u that he can’t allow him to date and hurt So-jin.

After Gang-hun leaves, Yeon-u and So-jin do some stargazing and are excited to see the celestial show. Yeon-u asks why So-jin is serious about telepathy and she says she wants to instinctively know when her lover is in pain to help him.

They two start getting cosy while listening to So-jin’s MP3 player, which Yeon-u fixed. However, they are interrupted by Mi-eun, who introduces herself as Yeon-u’s ex. So-jin starts getting jealous while Mi-eun is surprised because Yeon-u ghosted his friends just to come to the celestial show alone with So-jin.

On the other hand, Gang-hun’s team put out a fire at a random flower shop. One of the flower pots has the same logo as the one anonymously given to Yeon-u. This makes us curious about the new woman his dad is dating. Is she up to something?

After the camping date, Yeon-u watches Mi-eun’s shows to find out how to win So-jin’s heart. Meanwhile, So-jin continues to worry about Mi-eun after learning she is the woman who Yeon-u coincidentally met at the tower. She also stalks Mi-eun’s social media and sees a picture of her mom.

She is unaware that Yeon-u is making plans to create coincidences between them. He recruits Jung-tam to follow So-jin and sets up another experiment for them.

Unfortunately, Jung-tam loses track of So-jin when his wallet gets stolen on the subway and Sung-mi comes to his rescue. He ends up going to the aquarium and randomly meets Mi-eun. On the other hand, So-jin goes to the exhibition.

So-jin is disappointed that she can’t communicate with Yeon-u telepathically, but is surprised when he shows up while she leaves the exhibition. She believes they telepathically spoke to each other and agrees to go on a first official date with Yeon-u.

The Episode Review

We need to find out who Father Andrea was talking to on the rooftop. It could be the man secretly following Yeon-u and setting places of fire. Did Yeon-u’s dad have an affair with Father Andrea’s mom? What is the new mistress up to and is she linked to the fires?

On the romantic front, DNA Lover is becoming a bit tedious with the one-dimensional characters and lack of growth between the main leads. Hopefully, we will see more from the leads in the next episode after they go on their first date.

For a researcher, So-jin is overlooking the constant appearance of Mi-eun and Gang-hun. At the end of the day, does she need to have a telepathic connection to her lover for it to work? Yeon-u is out here, planning covert missions as if he is in the CIA just to create coincidences between them. It is a bit much, but the man is whipped and ready to sacrifice his time and effort for this!
