Delicious In Dungeon – Season 1 Episode 9 Recap & Review

Episode 9 of Delicious In Dungeon begins with Namari, Laios’s former comrade greeting him and the others. Namari introduces her current employers Mr. and Mrs. Tansu and her subordinates Kaka and Kaki to Laios and the group. Laios asks Mr. and Mrs. Tansu if they have a healer in their party. Laios tries offering them Kelpie Meat as currency but Mr. Tansu isn’t interested. 

Before Mr. Tansu leaves, Laios warns him about the Undine nearby. Mr. Undine says he’s not worried about it and says gnomes like he and Mrs. Tansu can handle it. We cut to Mr. Tansu attempting to ward off the Undine via a chant. However, this results in the Undine murdering Namari. Also, Mr. Tansu and the others flee the scene. 

They return to Laios and the others. Laios is concerned about Namari but Mr. Tansu performs a healing spell on her to replenish her. Namari confronts Mr. Tansu about using her as a shield. While those two argue with each other, Senshi and Laios chat briefly about Senshi’s contempt for resurrection magic. 

Mr. Tansu approaches Laios and Senshi. He informs them about his expertise with ancient spells and his goal to investigate a magic circle in the area. He promises he’ll heal Marcille if Laios and Senshi assist him with this mission. As they explore an area, Namari criticizes Laios and Senshi’s weapon usage. 

Suddenly, Laios hears a monster in the distance. The monster (which we learn is part of a species called Tentacles) grabs Kiki, causing Mr. Tansu to panic. Mr. Tansu orders Laios and Namari to free Kiki immediately. Namari confronts Laios about Tentacles and asks him for his thoughts about her plan to free Kiki. Laios shares some insight about the Tentacles species with her. 

Ultimately, he argues her plan will result in their deaths due to Tentacles’s abilities. Mr. Tansu says he’ll resurrect them with his magic if they perish. Laios says he’ll confront Tentacles and asks Senshi for his helmet. With help from Senshi and Namari, Laios manages to free Kiki from Tentacles’s grasp. Our heroes regroup with Chilchuk and the others. 

While Mr. Tansu heals Kiki’s wounds she sustained from Tentacles, Senshi approaches Laios about his numb hand. Simultaneously, we learn Laios’s face has gone numb because he and Senshi physically interacted with Tentacles’s tentacles. After some food-related shenanigans involving Laios and his party, Mr. Tansu approaches Laios and Senshi. 

Laios asks Mr. Tansu to heal Marcille first before they heal him and Senshi. Mr. Tansu heals Marcille and Marcille thanks Namari for helping Laios and Senshi out with Tentacles. However, she’s still bitter about Namari’s answer to her in the past regarding Falin. Next, our heroes observe the Undine from afar.

Marcille believes the Undine’s upset that she poured boiling water into its territory. Mr. Tansu and Namari scold Marcille for her actions. Marcille asks Mr. Tansu how long it’d take her to pacify the Undine. Mr. Tansu says it could take a week at most. Marcille’s disappointed with this answer. Mr. Tansu says he and his group will return to the surface and resume their investigation later. 

Laios tells Marcille she should head to the surface with Mr. Tansu and the others. Marcille disagrees and tries convincing her party to let her stay with them. Namari questions Laios if he and the others can survive without Marcille’s aid. Marcille begs Namari to rejoin their party and help Laios defeat the Red Dragon. 

Chilchuk tells Marcille to abandon the notion since he knows Namari’s in desperate need of funds. Moreover, Chilchuk feels Namari’s reputation will be ruined if she were to join their group. Namari tells Marcille to drop the idea of her regrouping with them as she returns to Mr. Tansu’s side. Then, Marcille tells her allies that she knows of another way she can regain her magic. 

She says she must drink the Undine and says they’ll need to acquire some type of heated weapon if they hope to capture it. Marcile scours the room and notices Senshi’s pot. She says she could heat the pot and use it as a shield. Namari notices the pot is an adamant, a special type of shield. Senshi explains why he uses it as a pot rather than a shield. 

Laios reminds his comrades that they also have an adamant lid. He tells Senshi that they should take the pot and its lid to trap the Undine. Laios and Senshi struggle to capture the Undine. Namari arrives and assists Senshi in capturing it. Once captured, she and Senshi take the adamant and place it over a campfire. After holding it down for a few seconds, Namari and Senshi defeat the Undine. 

Marcille swiftly grabs a mug, scoops up the Undine, and drinks it. Senshi suggests they whip up a meal to go along with the Undine beverage. Mr. Tansu and the others assist our heroes in gathering ingredients. Marcille insists that Mr. Tansu and his group join them for a meal. After eating, Namari confronts Chilchuk and is surprised he didn’t leave the group before she did. 

Namari shares a theory about their other ally, Shuro, who left the group too. Then, before she departs with Mr. Tansu, Namari hopes Marcille and the others will survive their endeavors. The episode closes with the two parties waving goodbye to each other. 

The Episode Review

With Marcille out of commission, things weren’t looking great for Laios and his friends. Thankfully, they ran into their former ally Namari, who happened to be acquainted with an expert gnome healer like Mr. Tansu. While it would’ve been spectacular if our new cast members got fleshed out more, it’s nice that they lent our heroes helpful aid. 

Simultaneously, fans will enjoy seeing Marcille confront Namari about her decision to leave the group. Although it’s a bummer Namari didn’t rejoin our heroes in their endeavors, this episode offers a reasonable explanation of why it’d be in Namari’s best interest to avoid that outcome. Nevertheless, we’re hopeful Namari, Mr. Tansu, and the others will appear in the narrative later. 

Overall, this was another fun episode of Delicious In Dungeon. From the epic teamwork showcased during the Undine-capture segment to learning about Namari’s fascination with weaponry, there’s enough content here to satisfy audiences. I’m excited to see where the story goes from here.
