Giant Frogs/Aboveground
Episode 10 of Delicious In Dungeon begins with Laios and his allies venturing to an area that’ll lead them to the fifth floor and orc settlement. They notice some strange enemies in their path and Chilchuk wonders if the orcs tricked them. Laios ensures Chilchuk that this path will lead them to the orc settlement.
While Laios chops through the Tentacles in their path, a creature referred to as a Giant Frog uses its tongue to swipe Laios’s sword. The Giant Frog tosses it toward the lower part of the dungeon. Marcille obliterates one of the Giant Frogs with a spell, but another one swipes her staff and tosses it toward the lower part of the dungeon, too.
Another Giant Frog attempts to steal Senshi’s axe, but Marcille and Laios provide Senshi with assistance. Meanwhile, Chilchuk searches the area to see if there’s something he can do to make the Giant Frog flee. He spots a Tentacle nearby but notices it’s not affecting the Giant Frog.
Chilchuk uses the Giant Frog’s (the one Marcille defeated) meat to make gloves for himself. He heads toward the Tentacle next to the Giant Frog that’s trying to steal Senshi’s Axe and pulls on it. The Giant Frog spots Chilchuk committing the act and tries devouring Chilchuk. Chilchuk pulls the Tentacle out of the wall, setting off an arrow-themed trap.
The arrow knocks the Giant Frog out, allowing Senshi and the others to save Chilchuk. Laios compliments Chilchuk for his brilliant strategy. Then, Laios carves a chunk of the Giant Frog’s skin to create several coats. Simultaneously, Senshi uses the Giant Frog’s flesh to make a tasty meal for them all to eat.
Laios convinces Marcille to wear the Giant Frog coat. Once everyone dawns their respective Giant Frog gear, we receive a montage of them continuing their adventure. After Marcille and Laios retrieve their gear, Marcille spots a dark and mysterious environment nearby, signaling to her that they’ve arrived at the fifth floor. Laios refers to this area as “the castle town.”
While our heroes investigate the castle town, Marcille realizes her Giant Frog coat’s stuck to her body. Laios tells Marcille he forgot to tan the coats, signaling to Marcille that they may be fighting the Red Dragon with this attire. Meanwhile, Mr. Tansu and his party reach the surface. Unfortunately, Namari arrives ill so Mr. Tansu entrusts Kiki and Kaka to take her to the guest room.
Mr. Tansu visits the Island Lord and reports on his experiences with the dungeon. He feels the Island Lord should send troops down there and place a bounty. The Island Lord delves into the war between dwarves and elves. During this discussion, he highlights the animosity shared between both species and the dwarves’ actions they committed after said war concluded.
Mr. Tansu presents the Island Lord with a book detailing magic circle drawings Mr. Tansu believes the Mad Mage (lord of the dungeon) drew. After discussing the Mad Mage’s species with Mr. Tansu, the Island Lord informs him he received a letter from the western elves. The western elves asked the Island Lord to let them have his dungeon.
Mr. Tansu tells the Island Lord to decline the offer, but the Island Lord says the elve’s king gave him the dungeon, so he may not have a choice in the matter. The Island Lord reflects on the rich items stored in the dungeon, but Mr. Tansu believes the elves are after the dungeon’s immortality spell.
Mr. Tansu says this spell is an enigma that has yet to be unraveled. However, he knows when someone does unravel it, the value will exceed that of mere gold. In any case, Mr. Tansu says they should uncover the mystery behind this spell before the elves do. Mr. Tansu tells the Island Lord a schematic for the immortality spell may exist.
He argues they should locate this schematic immediately. Once they find this schematic and uncover the immortality spell’s secrets, Mr. Tansu says the Island Lord can give the elves their dungeon back. Mr. Tansu believes the Mad Mage has the spell’s schematics in his possession.
Therefore, he feels it’d be wise for them to continue having adventurers explore the dungeon. Mr. Tansu says he’ll write something for the Island Lord to send to the elves. Meanwhile, the Island Lord plans to place a bounty on the orcs’ heads. Meanwhile, Kiki visits Namari in the guest room and hands her her payment from Mr. Tansu.
Then, Namari, Kaka, and Kiki explore the town. Namari tells Kiki she has some temple business to take care of. The three visit the temple and Namari tells the worker she’s looking for a tall individual. The worker says he doesn’t have any information about the person Namari is looking for.
Then, we return to following Laios and his comrades exploring the castle town. While the narrator prattles on about the castle town’s lore, we learn that Laios and his friends managed to remove their Giant Frog coats. Our heroes stumble upon an old storage building. While the goods are in neat condition, the place appears tattered.
Laios investigates the place and stumbles upon burnt Wargs. Marcille’s shaken by this discovery. Laios feels the Red Dragon is responsible for this and might be nearby. Marcille’s worried about their upcoming battle with the Red Dragon but Laios feels they’ll be okay. Chilchuk reminds his allies that he’s not built for combat and only plans to lead them toward the Red Dragon.
Senshi approaches Laios and asks him to share details on how he and the others normally handle dragons. Laios delves into great detail about his previous dragon-slaying methods with Senshi. However, he knows this strategy won’t work with the group he has now. Yet, Laios knows that every dragon has a weak spot, so he plans to forge a scheme based on that point.
Next, Senshi asks Laios about the Red Dragon’s height. Laios points toward a crumbled structure and compares it to the Red Dragon. Laios and his friends visit the location and Laios conjures a plan they can use to attack the Red Dragon’s weakpoint from this area. Chilchuk and Marcille don’t think Laio’s plan will churn out successful results.
Marcille questions Laios about their weaponry, reminding him of Namari’s comments she shared regarding Senshi’s axe. After Chilchuk and Marcille share more concerns they have about their future altercation with the Red Dragon, Laios suggests an alternate assault plan. This plan involves our heroes blowing up a structure once the Red Dragon swoops underneath it.
This will slow the Red Dragon’s movements, allowing our heroes to strike its weak point. While Laios ponders the Red Dragon’s reasons for visiting the fifth floor, Chilchuk recalls Namari’s remarks about Senshi’s pan being made of special metal material. Chilchuk believes they can use Senshi’s pan to block the Red Dragon’s fire breath.
Now determined to tackle the Red Dragon, we receive a montage of Laios, Marcille, and Chilchuk plotting. The three return to their temporary base and spot Senshi baking bread. Although Marcille’s baffled by Senshi’s actions, Laios thinks it’d benefit them to have a full stomach before they battle the Red Dragon.
During their feast, Laios shares some kind remarks toward his allies. Then, the ground starts rumbling beneath them, signaling to our heroes that the Red Dragon is in the area. They leave their hideout and spot the Red Dragon roaming the castle town. After Marcille enchants a spell on everyone, the episode closes with Laios initiating their Red Dragon-slaying plan.
The Episode Review
Despite being a slog to sit through, this Delicious In Dungeon chapter gave viewers wonderful lore surrounding the dungeon’s origins and the war between the elves and dwarves. Also, this episode gave fans some neat strategization on Laios’s party’s part. Moreover, it appears Mr. Tansu will be an important player in this anime, which is great to know.
Most supporting characters often receive minor roles, so it’s wonderful knowing he won’t be a forgotten side piece in this enchanting world. Additionally, fans may be surprised that we’ll be seeing our heroes fight the Red Dragon this soon.
Chilchuk mentions how the Red Dragon looks different than before. Therefore, many may question if this Red Dragon is the same one our heroes fought at the beginning of the series. While this might be farfetched thinking on our part, each species introduced so far is known to procreate. Nonetheless, we’re certain Studio Trigger will deliver a battle of epic proportions next week. Overall, this was a slow yet insightful chapter of Delicious In Dungeon.
