Deep Night

Deep Night Season 1 (iQIYI) is an 8-episode Thai BL drama about the staff at a host club, mirroring Bangkok’s high-end night spots. While handsome gentlemen hosts and hot, innovative performances make it popular, the team knows they needs to keep things sizzling and raid-free to keep the customers coming back and the club at peak.

One of the club’s hosts and performers, Wela, is a university student by day, but he keeps his job to himself. In fact, he’s a bit of a loner, studious and focused. And he has no idea that fellow student Khem has a crush on him. Especially as they go head-to-head in class, typically disagreeing with each other.

Only Khem’s friend Japan knows about the crush, endlessly teasing him over his lack of progress as female students follow Khem around. He also happens to be the son of the country’s top host club owner, Freya, but keeps that quiet too.

Freya is proud of her business skills and determined to make her host club, Deep Night, flourish. To delight guests, the hosts perform new aerial acrobatics show each week. And Wela, with flawless performances and a sweet demeanor, is the club’s number 1 most requested host.

Less erotic than you may imagine, Freya’s fantasy is that her business-student son will join the company she’s built and fall in love with it himself, taking over one day. Khem decides to intern at Deep Night, to give it a try – especially once he discovers Wela’s role there.

The story set-up is fun and the characters engaging, however the plot development is, for the most part, not terribly surprising. While there’s little mystery, there’s sufficient pacing and a believable chemistry between the leads, keeping the story moving.

In fact, it’s the characters that maintain it – all very watchable. We’ll likely see this appealing lead couple together again, as often happens in the world of Thai BL. The pairings are charming with enough implication of naughty to make it a more mature view. But that’s not what makes the story – it’s certainly the cast.

Consider it an easy watch, less shocking than its set up would have you believe. While they do portray explicit acts, like K-movie Love and Leashes there’s a fairly romance-focused story amongst the ropes and leather.

Missing the guys already? Watch this cute reaction video from the team. Aren’t they sweet without all the makeup?

  1. Why can’t I find any information for the episode soundtracks for “deep night” anywhere? So disappointing since the music is soooo great!
