Saint-Germain The Mysterious Man
Chapter 161 of Dandadan begins with the Fairy Tale Card stealing Germain’s eyes. Despite being blind, Germain fights the Fairy Tale Card without worry. Germain slashes through the Fairy Tale Card’s nose and mouth card. This allows Rin to receive her mouth again. Unfortunately, that card returns to the battlefield thanks to the Fairy Tale Card’s regrowth powers.
Rin loses her mouth again. The Fairy Tale Card tells Germain it’s pointless to fight him but wonders why Germain’s fighting against him. We receive several panels of Germain assisting the Fairy Tale Card behind the scenes. Germain and the Fairy Tale Card argue about who is the true fool in their partnership. He reminds the Fairy Tale Card about his card’s origins.
Then, Germain claims if he can slash through all of the Fairy Tale Card’s cards at once, the Fairy Tale Card won’t be able to regenerate. Also, Germain knows he can’t defeat the Fairy Tale Card alone. Serpo, the police officer, and Okarun return to the real world.
The chapter ends with Germain telling the Fairy Tale Card that with Okarun, Serpo, and the officer’s help, they’ll defeat the Fairy Tale Card.
The Chapter Review
Dandadan gives fans an action-packed, slightly thought-provoking chapter to read this week. In it, we see Germain fighting the Fairy Tale Card. During their fight, we see Germain utilize many interesting artifacts to enhance his weapon’s capabilities. Many theorize that Germain might be collecting spirits, yokai, and other creatures for a specific purpose.
Another ongoing Shonen series that’s tackling such a concept is Dark Gathering. Therefore, if one were to relate Germain’s plans with Yayoi’s (Dark Gathering’s protagonist’s) journey of fighting the Spectre of Death, one can predict Germain may want to collect the Fairy Tale Card and use its powers to fight a mightier foe. Whether that’s the case or not, begs to be seen.
Nonetheless, Yukinobu Tatsu’s done a great job at keeping Germain’s plans a mystery for folks to speculate about. At the same time, it’s great that the Fairy Tale Card continues to pull off some interesting tactics in this fight. It shows why he’s a villain worth admiring. Moreover, it’s great that Serpo, Okarun, and the police officer arrived on the battlefield. While their arrival feels slightly convenient, it’ll be exciting to see all our sane heroes fight the Fairy Tale Card.
Next to delivering exceptionally drawn action scenes, this was a great follow-up chapter of Dandadan. I’m excited to see what happens next week.
