The Last Show
Episode 10 of Daisy Jones & The Six begins with a back-and-forth between the concert and the hours leading up to the concert. The band plays in Chicago for what would be their last show. Warren says he was having such a good time that he didn’t want to see it.
Eddie has a black eye while Karen can’t seem to take her eyes off Graham who keeps his shut. Daisy finds Billy overtly enthusiastic and she is suspicious. As the song ends, Billy goes backstage and takes a drink.
Why do the band members lock heads at the final show?
It cuts to that morning as everyone checks in. Camila is angry at Billy and he can’t understand why. Simone shows up as a guest performer and Daisy is shocked to find out she turned down Attic Records for Bernie. Camila finally confronts Billy in the hotel hallway and asks him to tell the truth. He says he just kissed Daisy once. She asks if he loves Daisy and he cannot answer.
At that moment, Daisy enters the hallway and Camila leaves. Billy tells her that Camila thinks they are having an affair. She asks about his response and he says nothing happened and nothing will ever happen. Daisy is shocked and it then cuts to her doing coke backstage at the concert.
Karen and Graham are going to their hotel room when he notices that she looks pale. She tells him she had an abortion and he is upset. Camila then approaches Daisy who says that Billy is telling the truth. She says he will never leave Camila and she has to live with it. Camila interprets that Billy is staying with her out of obligation and is furious. She says that Daisy and Billy just pretend to be lost souls and deserve each other.
Alone in his room, Billy breaks his guitar and Eddie catches him at the worst time to tell him he’s quitting the band. He rants how he never wanted to play bass, that Billy rerecords his parts secretly and that his solo with Daisy was his only moment onstage to shine and Billy took it at their hometown show when his grandmother was in the audience.
An angry Billy lashes out as he says Eddie isn’t good enough. The bassist smirks and hints he was when he slept with Camila which leads to Billy punching him in the eye.
Do Billy and Daisy relapse?
On stage, Billy looks at Eddie and suddenly as the lyrics ‘turn around and look me in the eye’ play, Daisy and the viewers realise that Billy hasn’t looked at her during the concert which makes her confused.
Back at the hotel, after her confrontation with Camila, Daisy does a line of coke and calls her mother who keeps writing to her. Daisy thinks she wants to catch up but the mom asks her why she pretends to be an orphan and to give her credit which saddens Daisy.
Billy finally sings ‘Let Me Down Easy’ with Daisy while smiling at her and she cheers up. At soundcheck, Karen goes to Graham and says that she was always sure she never wanted kids. He is upset that she didn’t think he would understand and be there for her. He says that she will always be alone and it hurts her. On stage, Graham finally looks at Karen while ‘More Fun to Miss’ plays.
It back cuts to Billy desperately trying to call Camila from a bar and saying he loves her. He then tries to call Teddy but a customer keeps bothering Billy to give up the pay phone and he finally gets out. The man recognizes him and apologises by buying him a drink. He tears up as he gives in and drinks.
Meanwhile, Daisy spirals as she does a ton of coke. At soundcheck, Warren sees Eddie’s bruising eye and puts two and two together. He asks what’s wrong with Eddie as they are in the biggest band. The bassist says there is more to life and Warren just leaves. At the concert, it is finally time for Simone’s collab stage and in the break, Rod asks Billy if he is okay. He says he never was.
It cuts to Billy finally making it to the venue minutes before the show but is disappointed that Camila is not there. As he gets ready, he starts drinking. Daisy then shows up high out of her mind and in messy makeup. Daisy and Billy are the last to leave the greenroom and she jokes about her makeup. He just smiles and kisses her and she realises he’s drinking.
How does the band break up?
Finally, as the concert winds down, Billy starts thanking the band members. He teases Eddie but gives him a colourful and praiseworthy introduction. He says he loves him but in his ear, he whispers that Eddie is done. Camila finally shows up in the audience for the last song. She enjoys the song but as she watches Daisy and Billy get closer and closer she tears up and leaves as the song ends.
Backstage, Billy and Daisy make out as he says Camila has left him. But Daisy looks worried as Billy starts snorting coke. He asks her to be broken together but she says she doesn’t want to be broken. Meanwhile, Graham tells Karen that he loves her and he won’t mind what life they have as long as it is together. She just apologises and breaks up with him.
The band goes back on stage as the audience asks for an encore with ‘Honeycomb’. Daisy says she has been in love and it hurts. But she looks at Billy as she adds that love doesn’t have to hurt if you can find someone who lifts you even if you don’t deserve it. He tears up as she says ‘Honeycomb’ is a love song and the audience starts singing it. As she sings to him, she tells him to go to Camila.
He reaches just in time as she is leaving. She asks why he keeps drifting to Daisy and he says that Daisy sees even his bad parts and Camila can’t because he doesn’t let her. She says she has been with him since she was 18 and she knows. She doesn’t want a perfect life, she just wants him. Suddenly Julia wakes up and they stop arguing to put her to bed.
He promises he will work on their relationship and leaves for rehab. The interviewer says she remembers that night and it turns out that she is Julia, now a grown-up.
Meanwhile, Simone comforts Daisy and says Teddy has found a rehab centre for her. She tears up as she says she doesn’t want to leave The Six but realises she has to. The next morning as Warren, Rod and Karen wait, they see Eddie and Graham leave too. Rod says the chosen ones never know they are the chosen ones.
Where is the band now?
Karen said she wanted to be a rock star and is now the frontman of Candy Floss. Graham moved back home and started a family. He thanks Karen for being brutally honest so he could move on but she says she wasn’t honest hinting that she did love him. Eddie says he started a band and still plays gigs. Married to Lisa, Warren is a session drummer who still records with Daisy now and then.
Simone got back together with Bernie and they have a club together. Rod says he quit the business after he was heartbroken that The Six broke up. Teddy died in 1983 after working an all-nighter. Daisy is sober, still works on music and has a daughter. Julia asks Daisy if she has been in love since then and she says yes but with Billy it was different.
Both Billy and Daisy tell Julia that they felt the same way about things, were a mess together and wanted to heal but it wasn’t the right time back then. Billy says after rehab he went to therapy and got Camila back.
What happened to Camila?
However, Camila passed away as she had cancer. Karen says she was the reason she joined the band and stayed. Eddie says he couldn’t attend the funeral as he and Graham choke up. Daisy is thankful that Camila saw a future in her when she couldn’t. Billy says he can now confidently say Camila was the love of his life.
The band states that it is crazy that they are still famous and Billy says it is nice to leave a mark in the world. Julia asks Daisy if she would ever do it again and when she says she is not sure, Julia says Camila was.
Turns out the interviews with Camila were in the last stages of her life and she left a message for Daisy and Billy. She says that while love is not simple she had a good marriage. She adds that when he is ready to move on, he should give Daisy a call and that they owe her a song. The show ends with him visiting Daisy who smiles at him.
The Episode Review
We finally get to see the culmination point that led to the band breaking up. It just shows how the media likes to put a spin on things when they don’t know the truth or don’t like how simple the truth is. In the beginning, we see all the press cuttings and footage and it seems that the band broke up because Billy and Daisy hated each other.
In fact, it seems that the band couldn’t survive their feelings for each other. But to add to the pain, it is also Graham and Karen’s, Eddie and Camila’s. As for poor Warren, seems like he was the only one just chilling and having a ball.
But the fact that the interviewer was Julia was not that much of a big reveal though it felt like it should have been. After everything that had happened, the band just took our breaths away so, then choosing to show Julia as the interviewer then just felt like it wasn’t that much of a big deal, anyone could be the interviewer, it doesn’t matter. She is just our spokesperson as she learns about the band and all their strengths and weaknesses along with us.
