Red
Episode 3 of The Crooks begins with Rio and Red meeting the Russian mobster, who goes by the name Mikhail Prizcov, who demands his coin, and when Red fails to deliver it, Prizvov shows him a glimpse of the consequences that will follow if Red disappoints him.
The scene shifts to Joseph and Charley heading to Vienna. Joseph still doesn’t believe Zwanziger was trying to shoot him. Both Joseph and Charley are in serious trouble. Joseph is being hunted by Bach, while Charley is pursued by the Al-Walids. Charley’s problems worsen when he discovers his wife, Samira, and son, Jason, are not with Rami but have checked into a nearby hotel using Samira’s credit card.
This is a big mistake, as it makes them easy for the Al-Walids to track. It’s also revealed that Rami is planning a heist, perhaps to repay what he owes to criminals. Meanwhile, Hassan tells Tarek that he’s heading to Vienna to find Charley’s employer and asks Tarek to track Charley’s family as soon as possible.
In Vienna, Red and Rio are preparing for Karli’s funeral when they receive a call from Charley, who tells them that Zwanziger is dead and that if Red wants the coin, he’ll need to pay two million euros. Red agrees and tells them to come to Karli’s house to collect the money. Red also lies and says Karli has woken up from a coma and is stable.
Make no mistake, Bach has no intention of paying Charley; he plans to kill both Charley and Joseph once he has the coin. Why else would he call his best hitman, who had carried out many assassinations for him in the past? Eventually, Joseph realizes that Red is up to something and decides to team up with Charley.
Charley calls Red and arranges to meet at a public place. While Red and his group leave the villa, Charley and Joseph sneak inside and discover that Karli has already passed away. Joseph remembers Karli telling him that once he’s gone, chaos will erupt. That’s why Karli wanted Joseph to go into exile. Joseph and Charley leave the villa, and Joseph promises to help Charley get the money he needs to start a new life with his family.
Joseph also comes up with a plan for payback. Joseph arrives at the club, revealing himself to Red as alive. He then demands all the money in the safe in exchange for the coin. Charley joins the conversation, too, and, at gunpoint, forces Rio to open the safe. Before Red and Rio can react, Joseph and Charley escape with the money and the coin.
However, their victory is short-lived as Tarek discovers from his contact at the bank that Charley’s family is in Marseille. In Marseille, Rami finds Samira and Jonas. Over coffee, he recalls meeting Charley in prison and helping him during his time there. Although Samira doesn’t agree to return to Rami’s house, she promises to stay in touch, honoring Rami’s promise to look after Charley’s family.
The Episode Review
Trouble’s brewing for everyone in the show. Charley’s on the run because the Al Walids are hot on his trail. Joseph’s in a bind, too, since he’s thrown a wrench into Red and Rio’s plans to inherit Karli’s wealth – as long as Joseph’s alive, they’re out of luck.
Speaking of Red and Rio, they’re in deep trouble themselves. They owe a Russian crime lord a very important coin, and this aforementioned crime lord is way more ruthless and dangerous than they are. Simply put, he’s like a shark swimming in a pond full of little fish.
