Clone High – Season 1 Recap, Review & Ending Explained

Clone High Plot Summary

Clone High is a MAX Original animated series created by Bill Lawrence, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller. It is an animated fiction series that explores a high school where legendary historical figures like Abraham Lincoln, Joan of Arc, Cleopatra, and JFK have been successfully cloned by a mad scientist named Dr. Scudworth, who plans to release them into the modern world.

What is Operation Spread Eagle?

Operation Spread Eagle is a secret operation started by the American Government’s secret services, aiming to collaborate with Principal Dr. Scudworth. Under this operation, Dr. Scudworth will have to rejuvenate or reactivate all the clones he created of famous historical figures. This includes Cleopatra, George F Kennedy,  Joan of Arc, Mahatma Gandhi, and many more.

The government plans to re-educate these clones, bring them up to speed on current world events, and release them into society to restore peace and order and solve unsolvable problems. The decision is made, and the government appoints a lady to oversee the high school’s operations. At the same time, Dr. Scudworth will create previously unmade clones of more famous people.

What happens in the relationship between Abe and Joan?

Abe, a clone of Abraham Lincoln, wants to be in a relationship with Joan. In the first episode, we see Abe and Joan’s clones in a frozen state. When they defrost, Abe immediately confesses his love to Joan, but she sees him only as a friend and friend zones him.

As soon as Joan sees JFK, she proposes to him, and he accepts. They enter into a relationship. Meanwhile, Abe, not heartbroken, believes he can win Joan back. He maintains a friendship with Joan throughout the first episode.

However, Abe’s behavior gets Joan removed from the inclusivity committee, which makes her angry with him. As the story progresses, Abe manages to win Joan back, and they become friends again, although Joan remains in a relationship with JFK.

What is Cleo and Kahlo’s biggest secret?

Cleo and Kahlo arrange a sleepover, and luckily, Joan manages to get into it. At night, when the girls start to reveal their wildest secrets, Joan opens up about her wet dream about Abe, where she had sex with him.

One Joan’s secret is out in the open, she demands Cleo and Kahlo to reveal their own. Cleo and Kahlo refuse to reveal anything, but Joan persists. Eventually, they confess that once, while walking to the hostel at night, they encountered a clumsy man who tried to expose them.

Left with no choice, they killed him and buried him. Joan remains sceptical and demands proof. They agree and go to dig up the burial, but they find no corpse there. Joan is certain that Cleo and Kahlo didn’t kill anyone.

However, as they look into the burial site, the person they’d supposedly killed appears as a ghost. Surprisingly, he enjoys being a ghost, as he can be clumsy and do whatever he wants without considering others. He expresses gratitude towards Cleo and Kahlo for taking his life.

What happens in the desert?

On a fine day, the high school full of clones goes on a trip to a distant desert for a picnic. However, their bus breaks down in the middle of the desert just before they reach the main picnic spot. Dr. Scudworth takes all the necessary supplies and runs away with the robot.

Meanwhile, Cleo and Kahlo are determined to attend a concert to witness the performance of a famous singer. They decide to walk to the concert and are joined by Abe, who thinks Joan doesn’t want him around.

The three of them encounter cannibals on their way but manage to fight and defeat them, allowing them to finally attend the concert. Meanwhile, Joan and JFK are spending their time together, and JFK is developing his mind, which helps him grasp additional information. Joan is impressed by JFK’s creative thoughts and is more attracted to him than ever.

On the other hand, Dr. Scudworth has completely forgotten about his mission. As Scudworth and Butlertron flee the desert, and find their way to Los Angeles. Therein, they are drawn to a party. They temporarily forget their mission and start playing music for the public at the party.

As the end nears, we witness the last day of high school. This is when we see all the relationships coming back into focus, like Tubman and Confucius, which was the most acclaimed relationship in the show.

Confucius is portrayed as a soft and reserved person, while Tubman is friendless, so their relationship is seen as special. The relationship between Abe and Joan remains the same. All the clones graduate from high school and finally, leave the school to be a part of the governmental plan and modern society.
